I just couldn't wait

... of my trip, like where I'm living, the classes I'll be taking, etc. But after my orientation today I'm officially excited. I've started to get back into that old French mindset, the one that I've experienced before my other two previous trips to France. By the time I leave it will have been almost two and half years since I've been there, and while going to a completely different country with a completely different language ...

Home Sweet Home

... we don't want to turn the car off again. We let the car run for a while and then headed to get gas. Filled the tank and held our breath as we turned the key......YES.....it's alive !!

Then after one bathroom break for Don's ever shrinking bladder and dinner with Derek...we made it home. We both slept much better last night, but now I'm starting to cough......maybe we stayed away about a week too long. NOT.

Signing off........Don
A ping with the pong

I went back up to Eugene, picked up Katie and we drove back to Idaho. On the way there we camped in the Cascades at the Metoleous River. The photos don't really show how incredible this is, at the mouth of the Metoleous the water comes out of the side of the mountain. Turn around and it's a full river.

We drove through the Craters of the Moon National Monument, also an incredible area.
The beginning of ping pong

We left the ranch and came to Eugene OR a city I lived in back in 1988-90. I came here to participate in a few workshops and visit with good friends. This was the beginning of what I have called my ping-pong ball travels where I went between Eugene and Firth several times. This back and forth could be one of the reasons I was less motivated to ...

My Homemade Tandoor Oven

... s not terra cotta like all those articles I've read. Ah man! I hope back in the car and run back up to Jerry's (luckily its pretty close) and I find this special hack saw blade for cutting ceramics. I also pick up a big terra cotta pot just in case the other one doesn't work. Well, it turns out that special hack saw blade works pretty good. It actually gets a purchase in the ceramic and starts cutting it. But it's sloooooow going. After about 2 hours of sawing back and forth, I haven ...

... it very clear we were not leaving until we found our bags. Once he realised we were serious it only took him 15 minutes to find our luggage!! At last!! We then drove north over the Golden Gate bridge and headed for the Redwoods area. We found a drive through tree and were amazed at how huge these trees are. We stopped for the night st a seaside town, Eureka. This had a great old town area which has been restored. Had a great meal at the Waterfront Cafe with some local Pinot Gris ...

Last Act Before Departure: A Ceremony

... to receive the painting. It was to be the final event before my departure for an anticipated two years in Turkey.

The ceremony was rightfully about the picture, not me. That's fine with me, I'm something of a social wall-flower in most circumstances. I didn't even publicly say anything, though I was interviewed by a student writer for the university paper.

Here are some pictures of the Last Show Picture.

Back to the 45th Parallel

... MapQuest. For example, on one rainy night it directed us around the block when the entrance to the motel we were looking for turned out to be only a short block straight ahead. Ahhhh, the joys of technology. While walking we are usually side by side walking against the traffic, though when cars approach and the shoulder is narrow Ruah drops behind Louis since his cart has a white banner and makes us more visible. While walking behind Louis, Ruah oftens feels like she's the "good ...

Peace. love...Eugene

... meet those whose lives they shared, and learn from Mike. Mike is a cowboy with a handle bar mustache. He participated in the start of Hosea over a decade ago. One would never expect him to be the favorite of these teenagers with such pain and hurt in their lives, yet he is, and his faithfulness to the ministry is a stellar example. Some of the teens we met were Trent and Francis, their spirits and thirst for knowledge and truth truly left us blessed ...
