Historical Traveler Reviews Downtown Berkeley Inn

      Great spot near Berkeley!

Great new hotel near UC Berkeley. Close to the BART subway stop, walking distance to dining, shopping and more.

Would definitely stay here again. Two minor drawbacks, but they were working on them. The A/C unit was broken, but with the cool breeze at night it wasn't too bad.

Also, I had to go to the front desk to ask for an iron & ironing board to be brought to me. Would be nice to have an iron, etc. in each room.

But overall would most definitely recommend to travelers looking to stay near UC Berkeley who want a great place that won't cost a lot of money!

      Tolles Hotel nahe Berkeley!

      A very nice surprise!

I had never been to Berkeley before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. This is a great place to stay! The staff was very helpful and kind and the rates were very affordable! Very clean property located in downtown Berkelely; close to restaurants, movie theaters, and shops. Easy walking to campus also.

This hotel is very small, so don't expect a lobby or restaurant on site, but the location is great, so that wasn't a big deal for us. Parking is free, but minimal on the property, but there is free parking down the street or in a lot across the way. There is a Long's drug store on the corner and our favorite breakfast spot was La Note on Shattuck. Great lemon gingerbread pancakes!

We would definitely stay here again, and can't wait to do so. One small note: There is a high school across the street, so I'm not sure how that will affect the noise level or traffic once school is back in session?

      Great, convenient place

After reading great reviews for this place, my girlfriend and I stayed at Downtown Berkeley Inn to go to a concert at the Greek Theater. Obviously, this was the best of the convenient places in Berkeley for attending the concert at the Greek theater. It was like a 25 min walk. The place is great. I particularly wanted to check out the 42" plasma TVs in the rooms. They are worth the bucks, especially in high definition!!! I just wished they turned on easily. In our room, if the TV was off for a few hours it required to be unplugged, apparently?!!! The guy at the front desk was nice enough to come up and get the TV on for us. He actually even offered to change our room. Anyway, all in all this is a great place to stay. It was very convenient for us. It's nice and clean. Everything is new and smells great. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend anyone to stay here.

      Blessing in Berkeley

Our son has been attending Berkeley for three years now. So, we've stayed in Berkeley at various hotels. This place really is a blessing for the City of Berkeley not only because it is brand new but it really fits the diversity and philosophy of the city. It is as nice as it is unique, small family owned business. Most other places in Berkeley are old and we had regretted staying in other places. The Holiday Inn Express is new, but the rooms are very small and is not as convenient as Downtown Berkeley Inn (it's a short walk from campus). The beds are quiet and comfortable and with the foam mattresses (which we have owned at home for a few years now) you are not disturbed at all when your partner moves or gets up. We felt right at home with the furnishing. The rooms are very spacious and the designers have made very efficient use of the space. Of course, where have you ever seen 42" high definition plasma TV in a hotel room? Our son really enjoyed that! The place is very quiet in a light traffic area and the staff is very helpful and friendly. At an affordable price in Berkeley, we will definitely stay here every time we visit Berkeley. In fact, we'd recommend anyone visiting Berkeley or Bay Area to stay here. Thanks Downtown Berkeley Inn.

      Fantistic, unique, homely and more...

This place is absolutely amazing. First of all, the staff is very friendly. For example, the gentleman working at the front desk personally helped me move some our luggage into our room. That was very helpful as my wife just had a child and she was carrying the baby. We were treated like extended family. The staff is a family of four and everyone is very kind and helpful. The rooms are just magnificent. In my discussion with the owner (who happens to be a molecular biologist!!!), I learned that he decorated the entire place himself! This guy is as friendly as he's creative. He pointed out to me that he wanted to build a different kind of hotel. I think he's got what he wanted. He told me that the walls on the outside of the building are double walls, which makes the rooms very quite. The furniture is actually meant to used for home, but he's put it in his hotel (I hope people won't abuse it). Though, it is nice and solid. The foam mattresses are great! I am going to buy one for my home bedroom. And, of course, I got to see my San Antonio Spurs beat the Cavs on 42-inch High-Definition plasma TV! I don't even have one of these at my home. All in all, I enjoyed my trip to California mostly because of the comfort and hospitality of staying at Downtown Berkeley Inn. I wish I had taken pictures.

      Besøg i East Bay

Tilbragte weekenden i East Bay (lige øst for SF).

I wish we didn't worry about having our kids go on to the next grade. If we didn't, we would have skipped the formal education completely.

I'm writing from bed, as it's the only piece of furniture we still have, surrounded by packed boxes, trekking gear, and a lot of hopes and dreams. In one week exactly, Roger and I will be departing on our year of adventure. We have a hazy plan of what the next several months will look like but I think the keys to our happiness in the coming months are flexibility and open-mindedness. Already, our plans have shifted and metamorphosed tremendously from ...

We also explored a little museum of antique carnival games, which was interesting, and hit up Ghirardelli for a sundae. We then left and drove back to Palo Alto so that the Tilleys could spend some time with Jonathan's grandfather and I could get some work done.
