... just about affordable but we are well off the normal traveller route. I noticed a couple of times a sweet sickly smell that permeates the beaches here and wondered whether it was due to the masses of coconut palms that dominate the area enhancing the natural beauty; their frondy green contrasting magically with a deep blue sky. I think Barro de Sao Miguel takes the cake for beauty, although it was really too quiet in this the Brazilian winter ...

... recent rapid expansion has led to much high rise developments but even here there are large well planned open areas and parks. The coach station is a good example of the recent new building, it has been well planned with thought and contains many shops, eating places, a supermarket and even cinemas as well as all the bus companies sales kiosks.
