Historical Traveler Reviews of Doubletree by Hilton Montreal
Double tree or bust
from Barbatruka
We stayed here for four nights mid-week before heading back to London. The location is excellent just a short walk from all the action, the views of the city are great as the hotel is not hemmed in by other tall buildings and yes the cookie on check in was great. Although when we checked in the room we where given was a twin when we had booked for a king size deluxe. The lady on reception told me when I protested that as we booked through hotels.com(same for expedia and all the others) doubletree did not guarantee what standard of room we would get on arrival so we had to settle for a queen as the hotel was full for those nights, apparently! Which was a bit of a let down and felt like a bit of a con, they could at least state that rooms would be allocated on arrival. And this is'nt really a gripe against the hotel itself more against the receptionist. Why the hell give us a twin room when I am obviously with my wife I'm 27 not 67 for chri........!! We ordered room service for breakfast and they completly brought the wrong order then when they brought the correct order it was the same coffee, a bit luke warm by then. The rooms where comfortable the bed was great (not as great as a King Size Deluxe I bet though). The TV was directly to the left of the bed when you would hope for it to be at the foot but hey I'm picky!! Overall it was a comfortable stay it should have been great but their lack of attention to detail just takes the shine from it.
Amazed

Had read many reviews from this hotel and since the price was good I decided to see for myself. I usually go for business trips 3 times a year in Montreal so I thought it would be a good idea to try a new hotel since the last hotel in Montreal was horrible.
The food was amazing the chef made me a special meal since I have many alergies and felt that the effort they made was incredible.
My bedrrom was huge 2114, and had two large windows. They mentioned to me at the front desk that this was a corner room. If you go to this hotel ask for these there is no extra charge and its gorgeous. The beds are so confortable and the cookie they give at check in was so good. The entire hotel seemed very new especially the rooms and all public space. I mentioned to them I would recommed this hotel to everyone. A must see for a good night sleep and amazing food!

Don't stay there
from katsimard
First advise: Do not stay there!
Me and my husband stayed there for one night in January. It's an easy hotel to find in Montreal on Sherbrooke street. The parking cost 20$ CAD which is the average in Montreal but THIS IS THE WORST PARKING I HAVE EVER SEEN! Really low and dark with rubbish everywhere and a big scary dog living there! No pedestrian space so you have to walk in the middle of the place! It was awfull... Then we checked-in and I just mentionned to the receptionnist that the parking wasn't really safe and dirty. She said that the hotel wasn't the owner of the parking!! It's underneath them and you have to walk into their hotel to get out of the parking! Anyway, it's just the parking you will say...Well, for £64 (140$ CAD) we had a basic standard room, dated, with cigarette burn on the duvet and a loud background noise coming from the climatisation. After our night out in montreal we went back to the hotel hoping that the noise will be gone....No! it was still there and I couln't sleep with that! My husband went to reception and asked if we could change room. A member of staff went into the room to check the noise and admit that it wasn't right. He changed us room on the same floor. The noise was still there, the duvet was burn and the batroom ceilling was falling appart! We slept and left without having a shower as we couldn't stay there longer...
Towels, Toilet Paper and Tissues
from njguy99
I stayed at this hotel the week after New Year's, and it was fine. The room was clean and fairly spacious and the staff nice enough. But I was not blown away as I have been at other Doubletree properties.
I know it's a small point, but the condition of the bathroom sticks with me. The towels were thin, like those you get in a hotel sauna, and not befitting a mid-to-upper class establishment. One day, the housekeeping staff left us with no toilet paper; another, no tissues.
There was never a person at the "24 hour" Concierge desk, and most of the time the front desk had no one standing at it (they were in the back office, I later learned, after approaching the desk and looking for someone to ask a question). Likewise, there was no bellhop, or anyone to help us with the bags or hold the door when we came in.
This is not to fault the staff. As others have mentioned, guests seem hard to come by at this hotel so I imagine the staff is trying to make do with the "down time."
One final note: this hotel's location is deceiving. It's very convenient to the Metro (a station is right next door) but it's a solid 25-30 minute walk to the old city, down a very steep hill. If you're going to see that part of town, stay elsewhere. It's not worth the Metro trips back and forth.
Like I said, the stay there was fine - but if you're expecting to be treated the way you might expect in a self-described "upscale" hotel, look elsewhere. This is not the place.
I loved the hotel

I came to Montreal for business and i usually stay at doubletree hotels in the us so i decided to give the Montreal doubletree a try. The hotel was very nice, clean and spacious. My room was everything i would have expected. The wireless high speed internet was a great addition to the room. The location of the hotel was in good proximity of my business needs in the city. Overall this hotel perfectly suited my needs.

I just spent 5 days in the Doubletree Hotel in Montreal. WOW!!! I couldn't beleive how wonderful my stay went. I was scheduled to stays for only 3 night for my meeting but decided to extend through the weekend because of the big confortable bed and the wonderful service received from the entire staff. They made my stay the most enjoyable one. I normally would highly recommend this hotel for any types of visit.

Doubletree did the job
from MrsJTraveller
We tagged a few days in Montreal on the end of a Winipegg/Churchill/ Winipegg holiday based around polar bear watching to make the most of the long flight from UK to Canada. The Doubletree seemed a little "out fo town" but was priced very competativley so we took a chance and booked it. We think we made just the right choice. It was only a few minutes walk away from roads full of eating places in both directions, Italian, Thia, Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Lebanese, you name it. The nightime view from our 11th floor room was amazing
The hotel was very nice and I'd deffinately recommend it but it was very quiet and we got the feeling that a lot of its (numerous) rooms were not being used during our stay. The restaurant was empty everytime we went past and the bar never had more than a couple of people in it during our stay. We tried to use the pool. My husband braved it but it was just too cold for me. I suspect out of season it was not expected to be used and may have been turned down. The sauner was not in use. It may have been available on request but we did not want to commit the time to this at the point. We felt that the end of Oct was not the best time to visit Montreal and this larger hotel in particular. The weather was cold & wet and we felt it was a shame not to see this city in its summer glory. However the Metro was very usueul and kept us out of the driving rain and cold a great deal. Its a shame we didn't realise there was an opening into it right next to the hotel (rather than across the multilane road opening we used) until checkout.
Renovations done, Hotel quite nice
from deaner65
This was a Crown Plaza, they have just finished renovations. Our room was great. It was listed as "larger room" on booking. Great view of downtown and river from room. It is a liitle bit on the edge of downtown, but very convient to Rue St. Dennis's resteraunts, cafes and bars.
A new name for the hotel and it is renovated
from Corey12
I stayed at this hotel with my wife July 4th - July 7th. The hotel recently became a Doubletree Hotel and they give you a delicious cookie at check in. The staff was friendly and helpful when we asked for places to visit. Our room was very large, with a great bed, many pillows, and it was renovated. The bathroom was also renovated. The breakfast buffett was great too. Some of the reviews were harsh on this hotel, but we had a great time.
