Welcome to the United States of America.
Stopping in to the bathroom before customs or should I say border security, we had a quick change of clothes. Then off to the speedy diplomatic line and we were though and collecting our bags in no time at all. Greg and I were both surprised to learn that they don't actually check your bags as we …
One of those travel days where the plane is early afternoon and you spend the morning doing nothing much and it doesn't get much more adrenelin rushing thereafter. Plane was delayed a hour or so and made it to the hotel in Santa Monica only around 6pm. Nice place. We did manage to have a walk down to the famous Santa Monica pier and a bit of a …
We had a slow start this morning, after a long night. It continued raining this morning, so I called Andy's owner and told him that there was no way we were going to drive Andy in this weather, so he should come to us. He was very nice and apologetic and managed to sort out a ride and was here just about lunch time.
We returned Andy …
The rain was supposed to stop around 10pm, but it didn't! During the 2+ hours we were hanging out at the parking lot, Azrael had actually made some kind of contraption with some string to help the wipers move! Hahahahahahahahaha!! It was most hilarious!!!
Alas, the rain showed no sign of stopping. I sat there and prayed and prayed. And …
... back. So it seemed the right thing to do was to eat shrimp in Bubba Gumps restaurant. We spent the afternoon meandering. Beverley Hills, Rodeo Drive (pronounced ro day o not ro de o), Hollywood walk of fame, sunset boulevard, sunset strip. Just a little exploration in the world of celebrities and the movies. No famous people spotted but Michael is impressed that Marilyn Monroe adorned the first playboy ...

Historical Traveler Reviews DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Santa Monica
We stayed at the Doubletree/Santa Monica the first week of August 2004. We had our two older children with us, and stayed in a suite with an ocean view. The balcony we could only step out on (disappointed). Suite was adequate but nothing special. We liked to keep the balcony window open at night for a fresh breeze, but street noise was a factor. The rest of the hotel facilities were nice, ie pool, workout room, food. Staff was accomadating. Did not like daily parking fee with tax added on, over $100.00 for a 7 day stay! We were aware of it before booking. Hotel is a short walk from the 4th street Promanade, the pier, and beaches.
That was nice. Would recommend with only a little hesitation.
We Enjoyed the Stay!
Great, comfortable room, although view was lacking. Convenient location. Courteous, helpful staff. Great breakfast! Pretty much all you could want for the price.
This was a nice, very clean hotel with great service in the restaurant, breakfast good value for the price. Food was second tier, only compared with Le Merigot and Lowes. My room on the 4th floor had a view of the ferris wheel and ocean in the distance.
I just returned home from staying at this hotel. It is a very nice hotel. The rooms are clean and very spacious. My husband, myself and three children in one room comfortable. The location was in walking distance from every santa monica attraction, and in close driving distance to most California attractions. The staff was very friendly and helpful with all we needed. The pool was very nice and the grounds very pretty. We had an oceanview room on the eighth floor and had a very lovely view of the ocean and the pier.
Fair value but nothing spectacular
We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite so that my husband and I could stay up and watch TV etc after putting our baby to bed in his crib in the bedroom. It was an adequate facility but nothing noteworthy. The rooms were just ok, the staff pleasant but not incredible, the location fine but a bit of a walk to the action. Little things detracted from the overall value (the high speed internet was iffy, the pool was closed) although I would stay there again.
The Doubletree is in a very good location, several blocks walk to all the major attractions. Rooms were large with plenty of storage space.
Health club is one of the nicer ones I have used at a hotel. The $15/day parking charge does seem a bit steep after paying for the room.
Wonderful Hotel, Wonderful Location
My husband and I spent a week at the Doubletree and had an absolutely amazing time! The location was perfect, the rooms were clean and spacious, and the staff was absolutely incredible! If you'd like to email me, I would be happy to answer any specific questions you have about this hotel and it's location, (rather than write pages and pages of our incredible experience in Santa Monica!) We travel quite extensively, and found the accomodations at the Doubletree to be fantastic!
We stayed in the Doubletree for 3 evenings. The hotel itself and the room were quite nice and room service was just okay. However, upon arrival we discovered a small bag of marijuana in a folded "clean" towel on the counter. Then upon our departure we noticed we had been erroneously charged twice for using the in-room video game. When my husband went to politely dispute the bill, he was treated rudely by the front desk. Mind you, my husband, myself and our two small boys ages 4 and 2 were sleeping at 1:19 in the morning when the supposed gaming had taken place. I immediately called management to tell her of the incident and was treated with a "so what do you want?" attitude. I was scolded for not telling her about the "weed", because now there was nothing she could do about it. I told her we were not looking for compensation but that she would need to check her billing system for errors (because it obviously had some) and speak with her staff person at the front desk. Our compensation comes in the form of never returning to the hotel and advising others to check their invoices carefully.
Excellent place to stay
Luxurious accommodation with excellent service at a reasonable price - and all within walking distance of Santa Monica's attractions. Highly recommended.
Great week at Doubletree Suites
A pleasant hotel just under 10 minutes' walk from the beach, pier, and the buzz of 3rd Street Promenade. We had a large suite with king bed in separate bedroom plus sofa bed in the living area. We asked for a microwave and fridge and these were provided at no extra charge. Good fitness centre and swimming pool, although this is a bit noisy being beside the street. Car parking is pricy at 415 per night.
