So we arrived late in the afternoon, the flight IcelandAir 615 was pretty comfortable, we were in the exit row this time, so the leg room was great. I was able to write three of these stories and will upload them after I review them.
Probably because the flight was less than 6 hours (5 hours 50 minutes) food was not provided, although …
Today we took it easy. Woke up late, enjoyed breakfast, relaxed and got to the airport early. Super early. We got here at about 1 pm and our flight is due to leave at 8:30. There is enough to entertain us here that;s for sure. Their shopping center within the airport is just as big as the New Sudbury Shopping Center. We ate, we shopped and we …
So, the great London adventure began with three others who were booked (doomed) to the same flight. Upon arrival at our gate, I somehow missed seeing Tyler Hansbrough going through security at about the same time I did. Apparently, NOT seeing Tyler Hansbrough is a bad omen. It only got worse from there.
Our connecting flight to JFK Airport …
Well, today is the day: the beginning of my month-long foray to the East. A 1:30 pm departure from JFK meant a fairly early wake-up, but I was so excited that this was no problem. With my gigantic backpack loaded up, we left at 8 and got to the airport early so I could be nicely situated for my 13-hour flight to Tokyo. Once at the check-in desk, I …

Historical Traveler Reviews Doubletree Hotel JFK Airport Jamaica
Our American Airline flight home from a short break in NYC was overbooked, so my girlfriend and I volunteered to stand down so others could go home, once we got on the "death-shuttle" to this hotel, i was beginning to worry that we might not even make it to the front desk (not a good start then!). Got to check-in at 22:55, with vouchers for a room, breakfast, and dinner (thankyou very much AA!), found dinner stopped being served at 23:00, so my girlfriend went to get us a table whilst i checked in, or so i thought! A couple of minutes later she returned to me far from happy for 2 reasons; the gift shop (which sold lighters, and she's a smoker so needed a cigarette having not had for 6+hrs) had decided to close early, and she was also told by a very rude member of staff that it was 5 to 11, yet the restuarant had closed, and the chef was sat down eating something, yet he still agreed they stopped serving food at 11. The man behind reception then gave us a cookie each, whilst he went and "sorted something". Over half an hour later we were eventually given some breaded chicken bits, and a few chips, yet told by a woman (who had decided to ring her manager and complain about the guests who had caused them this hassle of having to do their job, with just her back turned) that the voucher was only for $20 and we would have to pay the extra. Considering we weren't asked if there was anything we would like, or even shown a menu, this just added to the grief, so we decided to take a small parcel of this food to our room and let others, who had arrived a little bit later, have as well, as we had an early flight and needed sleep. A few hours later our misery continued as my girlfriend attempted to have a bath, yet the plug refused to remain in the plughole, thereby allowing all the water, she was trying to put into the bath, to escape. One positive though was checking out was quick and easy. When the shuttle arrived to take us back to JFK, the driver could not understand that we didn't have any luggage (as it was on it's way home!) and then proceded to drive rather eractically on the short trip to the terminal, one minute trying to emulate Michael Schumacher, the next driving like an 80yo pensioner!
This doubletree hotle is close to JFK and that's it!! Its in Queens neighborhood surrounded by residential houses, very far from any commercial or shopping area, no restaurants nearby, and far from Manhattan (about 15 miles). The hotel check-in is easy, staff is friendly, rooms are very big and comfortable, and shuttle bus to JFK runs every 30 minutes. You get two chocalate chip cookies upon check-in but that's it.
Average Airport Hotel
This was an average hotel with an airport shuttle service that was fairly frequent. The room was adequate and spacious. The room was also clean and provided excellent views of landing flights at JFK. It is very convenient for the airport, though I wouldn't venture out too late at night in the local area.
Planned to be in Manhattan from Oct 28 to Nov3 but most available hotels had a price hike on Oct 28 so decided to stay one night in Doubletree JFK.
Well, after reading the prior reviews, I was extremely reluctant to book this hotel, but I just needed a room for the night near JFK. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! I'm not sure if they read the reviews, but the hotel was nothing like I thought it was going to be! The front desk was very helpful, even down to suggesting a restaurant in the area. The room was great! The sheets were nice and clean, bed was comfortable and the room looked really nice. The bathroom walls and bathtub looked like it should have been updated and there were a few more cosmetic problems in the bathroom, but it was otherwise fine. There was a slight problem. My friend called before 11pm to room service and just asked for some flatware and they said they would bring it right up. 15-20 minutes later, there was still no room service. So she called back down and they said that room service was closed (why didn't they just say that it was closing the first time?). The front desk said to come downstairs to get the flatware, which she did and had no other problems. That situation was a little annoying, but it was not a dealbreaker. I thought it was a great room for the price and for the location! I would stay here again based on my experience!
Good airport hotel
The room was lovely, and I was very impressed with the free WiFi...even better than the warm chocolate chip cookie you get on checking in!
For an airport hotel, it was good value.
After leaving our original hotel, the Fairfield Inn, due to their lying about the ability to leave ny car in their lot while on vacation, we wound up here.
First our room has no AC. I called front desk and complained about it and they told us to give it time and it will get cooler. I left for lunch and came back 3 hours later the room was still hot. I called the front desk again and I was told they were checking on it. Before heading out for my first NYC excursion, I decided to pay front desk a visit. This time thinking either they give me another room or I was going to check into another hotel. They came up with an excuse that their mechanic could not fix the problem but they did not bother to tell me. I finally got another room and got no luggage moving assistant offer. The story was not end here. After my first trip to NYC, I bought two pair of shoes. I took out the first pair and used it on the 2nd day. The 2nd pair was still in box in the shopping bag. When I came back on the 2nd day, the new shoes and the shopping bag were missing. I reported to the hotel management and they filed the missing report with my receipt included. The 4th day I checked out and business as usual. I mentioned about my missing shoes report and the front desk told me that Doubletree Management will come back to me later. I left the hotel with a business card with no written apology or copy of the report from the hotel. Based on this experiment, I strongly suggest to traveler who has interest to stay at this hotel to reconsider somewhere else.
The hotel just changed names, from the Raddison to Double Tree. This may explain a few things. We did receive the complementary cookies upon check in, but the front desk staff appeared to be ready to call it a day. Meaning tired and disinterested in a one-on-one client involvement. The man who took our bags to our room was most pleasant and helpful.
My girlfriends and I set out for a fun night in Manahattan!! We flew in for just one night and thought it best to stay at a hotel at the airport--for more sleep time before departing the next day ;-). We had very pleasant staff to greet us: from the free shuttle at airport to hotel checkin. Our shuttle driver sent us off saying 'Have fun and go get your cookie', we had no idea what she meant. At the hotel front desk, there is a huge sign about 'the cookie'. My friend signed the registration card and was presented with three warm, individually packaged cookies. As we rode the elevator to the room, that was THE best hotel cookie I have ever had!!! But once we all got into the room, we were missing a key thing for summer time in NY.......AIR CONDITIONING. It was blowing, but blast warm air! We didn't have time to change rooms but we called for maintenance to repair it. They did arrive in a timely manner but the AC still did not work properly for our stay. As we prepared for our night out, a definite shower is needed to refresh, BUT it took almost 30mins for the hot water to kick in!!! Seriously! That was a delay I did not anticipate to encounter.
