Travel Blogs from Atlanta
We left our hotel in Atlanta and headed to the zoo. We have seen enough zoos but the kids were excited to visit this one because there was a baby rhino, gorilla, orangutan and pandas. It was drizzling when we got there and then started pouring. We were patient and got to see the baby gorilla and orangutan. We made it to Memphis as the sun was setting.
It is getting tougher to blog regularly. We did not have wifi at the Hilton because you had to pay for it and we were too cheap. We drove 6 hours on Thursday from Hilton Head but made good time and arrived in Atlanta at around 3 pm.
We drove straight the the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. We spent about three hours here. I think the kids are starting to connect the dots in terms of the connection between the Civil War ...
Getting used to the "freeways" now - spent all this week doing a 25 mike each way commute. The motorways have up to 8 lanes either side here, which seems ridiculous, especially as they're busy between 7-10 & 4-8 daily! Seems the infrastructure can't keep up with the population growth in ATL! ...
New week, different client. More internal audit (SOX) work. But this is an established client, who are listed with over $4bn turnover. Therefore the controls are already implemented & testing should be a little easier. Working with Mike, same level as ...
Today started my journey from Georgia, USA to Shanghai, China. During my three month stay in China I will be teaching English to 5th graders at United International School of Shanghai. My journey began from my parents house in Jonesboro, Georgia, only about a ten minute trip from our home to Hartsville Jackson International Airport. Upon leaving my house I got that feeling inside that ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Doubletree Guest Suites Atlanta-Galleria
I stayed two weekends during the holiday season. Both experiences were wonderful. The hotel staff were friendly and the rooms were nice and clean. The property has a great location for easy access to the Perimeter. I was recognized as a Hiltonhonors member and the given the benefits of being a frequent guest.
3 star hotel
Our stay (romantic getaway) was nice w/ cookies, champagne and chocolates, however the staff makes this nice hotel flawed. Everyone from the Front desk to the maids are rude and uncaring. My husband was EXTRA pleasant just so that he could get a smile out of this people and he received a deadpan face. Very uncaring, especially for 239 a night. It definitely should not have been up to my husband to make THEM smile, they should have been the one's going out of the way to be courteous to my husband. Also, the surrounding area is not a safe place. A lot of young kids w/ loud rackish music and "hanging out" in the parking lot and other areas. I would not recommend this hotel. The Double Tree in Perimeter is a much nicer, cleaner location.
I booked my room on doubletree.com and reserved a room with a suite with a king size bed and double person jacuzzi. We stayed the night of 9/25/04. When I arrived at the hotel, the front desk gave me my room key and my fiancee and I went to our room to find out we were given a regular room with a regular shower, and a queen size bed. I went down to the front desk to get the right room and the front desk attendant told me they overbooked and he was sorry. He offered me 10 dollars off my stay and free breakfast. He didn't seem to care to much how sad I was to hear this. This is one of the few times ever that we get to go out of town and have a nice, romantic evening together. We were in town for a concert and we were very excited about staying in a nice room. My fiancee was able to get another 10 dollars off after a little more complaining, but for what the room came with, I would a been better off just staying at a clean, reliable hotel like a drury inn or suites for less money. To top off the entire stay, we woke up the next morning to find ants crawling all over the floor near the dresser. Apparantly the ants got in my fiancee's clothes and bit her four times. One bite on her back and three bites on her arm. I am very disgusted with what happen. My expectations were definitely not met and doubletree will be getting a call from me about my stay. Oh, one more thing, when we got back to Nashville, we checked our card and it looks like they not only overcharged us($113 bucks), but they charged us twice! I'm sure if I asked my fiancee what other things went wrong, she could list a few things as well. Please be aware of this doubletree location!!
6/14-6/16. Did not really care for this hotel. I was in Atlanta on business and stayed 2 nights. Did not try the restaurant, but morning breakfast buffet was ok. The building is somewhat old and rooms, hallways, elevators, etc. could use a little revamp. The atrium area is uninspired and plain, as well as extremely hot. Outside the room was hot and muggy the whole time I was there. With other hotel choices closeby, I would not stay here again.
My fiance and I stay there on every Valentine's Day, Birthday, or any special occasion. We find this hotel to be very romantic. We love the balconies that overlook the atrium. We especially love leaving the balcony door open so that we can hear the water fountains below. We love the jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, my fiancee is a big & tall man and we can both fit comfortably. When we order room service we generally have the Prime Rib, which is great. It's also romantic to eat in the atrium by candlelight. The staff is friendly, and the welcome cookies are the best. I would highly recommend this hotel.
I stayed at the doubletree the weekend of April 17,2004. The outside of the hotel and the lobby is really nice. It did not compare to the room. First of all the air conditioner only blew out warm air and it was set on 50 degrees. The refrigerator needed to be defrosted. It was suppose to come with a microwave, could not fine one anywhere in the hotel they did not know what happened to it. The furniture and t.v's were old. The bed was so uncomfortable it felt like you were sleeping on the box spring. On top of that the room never got cold we had to go by a fan to keep from roasting. We ended up checking out 3 hours early. This hotel needs some major renovations.... quick.
I stayed at this Doubletree for a stressful week-long work trip, and was honestly amazed at the top-notch service the staff provided. The facility itself is not remarkable -- clean, spacious, but nothing to write home about -- but the concierge, front desk staff, and restaurant staff were all as helpful and service-oriented as any I've encountered at a truly top-notch resort. They made a bad week good.
Hotel was nice and clean. The staff was very nice and helpful. The rooms were very spacious and LOVED the jacuzzi tub for 2! I surprised my 6'3" hubby with this particular ammenity!!~ The location of the hotel was great for as it was away from the hustle and bustle of downtown but was only a 15 minute scenic drive there. Would recommend staying there. Maybe it's not a 5 star but it's very nice! Wasn't too thrilled with the food but service was friendly! A great reason to get out on the town!
We spent one night this weekend at the Doubletree Suites. The hotel is nice and the staff is friendly, but I would suggest some improvements need to be made. We had a balcony suite which had a jacuzzi tub included. The room was spacious and roomy but the sofa in the living room was worn and very uncomfortable, the chairs also were worn. The bed was nice but not the best and the room could have used a little better cleaning. The jacuzzi tub was nice but way too small. Other than that, we had a nice stay. This could be a very nice place with some much renovations.
Not a romantic getaway
The Doubletree at Galleria is an all-suites hotel that is fine for a family with children, but not so great as a get-away for a couple seeking luxury and refinement. On the plus side, my two rooms were spacious. But the decor was on the run-down side, with the couch looking a bit saggy and, in my room, a broken bathtub spigot and jet controls on the whirlpool).
