A visit to the Southwest

What a gorgeous day. We flew into Phoenix last night and spotted some unique sites from the air. Just before we landed there were visibie forest fires burning on the mountain off to our left. Our hotel was the Doubletree Suites. It was probably the nicest accommodations we've had. As we left the hotel this morning there was a succulent growing on …

... union was dissolved by September 4. The mayor of Boston, Andrew Peters, convinced Curtis to delay his action for a few days, but Curtis ultimately suspended the union leaders on September 8.

"Your assertion that the Commissioner was wrong cannot justify the wrong of leaving the city unguarded. That furnished the opportunity; the criminal element furnished the action. There is no right to strike ...

... Mike is watching a football game on the outdoor screen. The rain has stopped and he has signed out two blankets to wrap up in. Can you believe you have to sign out blankets now? WHO was stealing blankets! With luggage allowances nowadays I can't imagine who thought they were that nice! Tonight is the second formal night which I alway like :-). All for now. Looking forward to the cottages of Newport ...

... over some rocks. Once at the Queens Bath you had the option of going in or not. I chose not. Those who did go in said it was pretty warm though.

We then made our way back to the beach for lunch. Lunch was fruit juices, ham and turkey wraps, fruit and chips. After lunch you could opt to enjoy the beach or snorkel or swim. They said sometimes there are turtles off shore but I didn’t see any that day. The snorkeling was not that great either; ...

Running in Boston

I
enjoy running, and I particularly enjoy racing. When I travel
anywhere I use my runs to explore. Wherever possible I enter a local
race.

So,
on our recent house exchange to Boston I entered a four mile race
along the beach at Nantasket, part of a peninsula to the south of
Boston harbour. An internet search indicated a journey distance of 25
miles and an estimated time of one hour. The race was due to begin at
6.00 pm but we left at 3.00 ...

    Amazing!

    from Dizzyelmo

This hotel was ideal for us. Spacious rooms and very clean. Lovely hotel with adequate facilities, including pool, jaccuzzi and gym. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The shuttle service was excellent - just make sure you book a seat before hand. Always ran on time. The views over the Charles River are exceptional, and you can see right ino the city - looks great at night!

Couldn't fault this hotel at all, and had a brilliant stay.

Non smoking room was smoking and close to nothing

    from anonymous

We booked through expedia and therefore did not receive a non smoking room since expedia requests are only honored after everyone else who booked through Doubletree is accomodated. The manager was a jerk and refused to accomodate us until we demanded to smell every room to choose one that would be less offensive. then he came up with a non smoking room. In addition, there is nothing even remotely close to the hotel such as a sandwich shop or conveneince store so you are forced to order from hotel

    Save Yourself and Stay Away

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Doubletree in order to drop our daughter off at school and as such simply desired a relatively inexpensive but clean room located in the Cambridge vicinity. After searching online we found a nightly rate of $137 (including taxes and service fees) on Expedia.

Normally, we stay in two rooms with our children but felt that for our purposes a suite with a sofa bed would suffice. The room was dirty, there were stains everywhere, the sheets were torn, and overall it was a horrible experience. To make matters worse, the sofa bed was as hard as a rock and though we had requested a nonsmoking room only smoking rooms were available. Please note that the hotel has no convenience story. It faces the road and is nothing short of a dump. In conclusion, here is my advice: save your money and stay away.

    Lots of room for improvement

    from anonymous

We had a week vacation for kid's spring break, we stayed in NY Doubletree, it was fabulous ( highly recommend) , the next stop is Boston Doubletree Guest Suite, on the contrary, it is an awful experience. Manager is inconsiderate for our request, Shuttle sucks, not on time, twice my family can't hop due to full booking.. Concierge staff is rude and unorganized. Have hard time to imagine why other are satisfied here, guess those are professional ghost writer for the hotel..

Don't stay here , lousy service..

    from anonymous

The worst Doubletree is in Boston @Charles river, they simply fail to deliver they promised:1.Free shuttle, but you might not get a seat as they only operate a small van, few times several families including mine have to wait for the next shuttle which is one hr. interval, and if you try to get back on the last one you'd better off walk. Consider the location it's extremely inconvenient. 2.Excellent service? NO.This hotel under the new mgmt do not understand the word SERVICE, they shall do understand the $ sign, everything from Concierge thru front desk staff to the front office manager are very $ oriented, sloppy service at best.3.You thought this must be a quiet hotel since it's near by the river.. NOBecause of lousy window insulation and near by cargo container transport station, we heard noise (like Carne operation) throughout 24 hours.4.This hotel does not deserve to be listed Hilton Honor list, I would catogorize it more within Motel 6 class. Don't get ripped off, try to stay @ other Hilton/Double tree at Downtown..

    Extraordinarily unhelpful

    from anonymous

There was a misunderstanding about the rate at which I booked my room and the front office manager was extremely uncooperative in resolving it (or to me more precise, NOT resolving it), to the point of surliness. I would not stay there again. There are plenty of other hotels in Boston where they'll be more appreciative of your business.

    We'd do it again!

    from Saunders

My family wanted a mini-vacation during school break and we were extremely pleased. The front desk staff and concierge were very helpful and pleasant. We had an 8th floor suite with a breath-taking view of the Charles River. We took advantage of the pool, the room service, the Boathouse Grill restaurant and the complimentary shuttle to Boston and Cambridge shopping areas. I would highly recommend this facility.

    Excellent reception staff

    from anonymous

The weather was awful when we arrived early may 2002 in Boston by car from New York: heavy rain was pouring down onto the city for hours on end.

The receptionist at the Double Tree was very busy alternating two phones at his ears, muting a cellphone for the time beng and tapping on to a PC-keyboard at the same time, he nevertheless managed to squeeze out a surprisingly flawless conversation with me, that started as follows:

Good evening, and welcome to the DoubleTree. The weather is dreadful out there, and you are very wet and must be quite cold! Let me get you a towel right now to get you back in shape again, this one is of course on the house.

The way I see it, this scene marks crystal-clear the fundamental differences between three, four or five star hotels. It 's not the technical stuff or the size of the room that makes the difference, it's the 30% of all employees that know how to anticipate on to the demands or latent desire present in the inside of any client, and all there to be discovered!

I take it that you can follow and appreciate the view I have been trying to make clear.

    Amazing elevator, ok location

    from anonymous

The room was pretty good. The elevator was really cool, it was a glass elevator and you could see the whole hotel when going up the elevator. It was a pretty good price for such a luxurious look. It is very good for families. The location isnt bad, its just hell trying to drive anywhere in Boston

    I'd stay here again!

    from anonymous

We've enjoyed this hotel on more than one occasion because there is a separate bedroom which allows one person to watch TV while the other sleeps. I also enjoy having a fridge available.

We've had several meals in the restaurant all of which have been good.

During our last visit there was an unfortunate incident in the middle of the night with the people staying in the next room...lots of yelling and screaming which woke us. The front desk was very quick to send someone up to deal with these people.

Really the only negative is that the hotel isn't close to a T stop, but they do run a shuttle which will take guests to specific locations and pick them up if given 30 min. notice.
