July 4th-Happy 4th to our USA! Gary and Sharon arrived home in the late afternoon and unpacked the SUV. It was cool and windy on the beach so they did not spend time waking in the sand. Two bottles of homemade wine had exploded in the refrigerator here and I had done a cursory cleanup-(but I didn't know what the mess was from!) so we emptied the entire thing and gave it a good cleaning. Later to dinner at Boon’s Treasury downtown ...

        How we missed Mount Rainier

We did some night photography last night and went to bed by 11. Slept well and woke up by 6:15. We were on the road by 7:15, but by then clouds began to clutter, covering Mount Rainier with thunder and rain. We lost sight of the mountain and headed basically back. Next walked a few more blocks to the Columbia Clothing Flagship store. I love their stuff and have 2 of their jackets. I was wearing one and the other in my bag. I wanted to see if they still sold them as Jodi is interested in one. They do and I got the info for her. It has rained lightly off and on but ...

... destroyed ecosystem after ecosystem, but the imprisoned animals certainly looked dead inside from boredom. The irony of the situation did not escape my thoughts.

After the zoo, we headed east towards a little diner I had read about called Evoe. On the way, we had to stop for a drawbridge (2 in one day…we stopped for one at the Washington/Oregon border, too). I expected some giant cargo ...

... for an 11 year old cat. I made several trips to the car getting things I needed but finally settled down and read some, later fixing potato soup for dinner. Around 11 the electric storm started and was a big and long lightening show. Very little thunder so was distant from our location. Later it rained, not a lot, but enough to wet everything thoroughly. Rudy slept near my head most of the night and then beside me in the morning hours. He just wants to be petted ALL the ...
