On my first day in the south island, when I had just hit the west coast, I was coming into a town called Westport and there was a huge roadside sign - "If you want England, go to Christchurch - For New Zealand visit Westport" - Now I understand it....
I left dunedin about 8 for the drive up to Christchurch, about 4 hours later I crossed into "little England". Christchurch was named after the Oxford college and it was established by a group of Christian men, the majority of whom attended t...
Left Blenheim (pretty town) by mid morning and made our way South again to Christchurch.
The drive is about 4 hours and today was a public holiday in New Zealand so we took our time to take in the sights of the East coastal drive. Today we saw some of the first glimpses of amazing scenery and had to stop the car at one point just to take it in and get some photos.
I was intigued by the one of the things that New Zealand is famous for... the amount of sheep! They were in every location ...
Arrived at 3.15 pm in Christchurch, after a 28 hour journey via Dubai, Bankok, Sydney. We went through 4 different time zones. Didn't feel too jet lagged but it may catch up with us yet! Christchurch is lovely - quite English with old buildings and lots of parks. The one you can see (if I do it right) is Hagley Park. Loads of flowers as it's Spring here - tulips, rhododendrons galore and the horse chestnuts are all in flower. It looks lovely everywhere
Weather was sunny and warm when ...
We got into Christchurch to spend our last evening in NZ before heading to Australia. This was the nicest hostel we stayed at in New Zealand with a pool table and FREE internet! Too bad we always find the best hostels at the end of our trip! I wish I would have known about them before as we stayed in another one in Christchurch at the beginning of our trip. Oh well.
After arriving into Auckland from Christchurch, we checked into our flight to Sydney on Emirates Airlines. Talk about a B...

... I am the only one besides Eilidth with a broken knee and no official drivers license who can drive stick. When we got to the parking space marked on our receipt, we looked at each other and broke down. We had been given the most ridiculous car in the lot! It gave a new meaning to economy compact. There was no boot(trunk)!! It was the tiniest hatch that I wouldn't even be able to sit in. My guess is that it was less than a foot deep and we had a lot of stuff with us. Audrey ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand hanhanmarie... the hostel so we take a detour back into the internet room to upload pictures and do more research on SE Asia.

Back at the hostel, a short rest before joining Nik and Ben in the kitchen for our last meal all together, cooking up both our leftovers with a few extra bits we bought. Hugs goodbye after washing up as they've got to get a shuttle much earlier than us, then we're off to pack and sleep.
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand stephanie813... I moved on to another bar that had a country/blues duet playing. The venue was appropriately dusky and the musicians were talented. It didn't develop into a crazy night, but it was a solid start to my time in NZ. The following morning I was up early to start my Kiwi Experience. For those of you who don't know, the Kiwi is a hop-on, hop-off bus tour that brings you around the coutry, stopping at photo opportunities, giving a run down on local ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand belahanratty... evening took me to the Hotels heated outdoor pool. I can't say I was hungry afterwards but we had dinner none-the-less, our second and last meal of the day. Despite the appetite being low I ate a lovely curry dish. The food was remarkably good for a hotel. I sipped on Dads white wine that went well with the meal. Wooded C******ay, Grove Mill Estate, Marlborough region (year unknown). I tried for an early night after meal. After waking up after an hour I struggled to return to sleep.....
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand broony79... a smile out of me as I was concentrating so ***********trolling my speed. All in all, it was great, my legs were killing me after each day and although it was tough, I will be back on the slopes again at some point, if not only to get a fab ski outfit!! From Toby's point of view the skiing was a unexpected fantastic just turned 40 b day gift and he particularly enjoyed the apres ski, which pretty much consisted of us alone in a bar, talking about anything and everything, as ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand tobszanni... wait to take over the Camper ( later to be named Shelly!! Me-Shell get it!!!) More thunder and lightning that day was this an omen?!!!! We spent the first night in Akaroa we have been there before. Had **** dinner then off to bed. Went shopping the next day to buy bit's and bob's for our 10 week's in the camper.
Christchurch, New Zealand kazzerby... steep descent back into the town. The weather was overcast but dry and warm with a strong breeze up top so ideal conditions really. The views were once again beautiful and I sat up top savouring what will probably be my last adventure on this particular trip, playing the near 3 weeks over in my mind and realising just how much I'd crammed in. With that, I headed back to town and showered before looking for somewhere to eat. After a bit of a trawl I realised I wasn't particularly hungry ...
