Dorset House is ideally situated next to the Botanic Gardens & within walking distance of the centre of Christchurch. It has some lovely public rooms & good hot water, laundry facilities & attractive kitchen with an outside deck.

Today would be my last full day in New Zealand. I had a free day in Christchurch and as I was in no rush to see anything had a nice lay in. I had breakfast with Tessa at 11am then we split up to do our own things. I had a look at the Canterbury museum, which was surprisingly good considering its size. They had excellent exhibits on Maori history, …

Seeing as I (Michael) was the only one in Christchurch on the 23rd I'll start off this New Zealand blog! Upon arriving at the backpackers lodge called Dorset house the first thing I was asked by the receptionist is "oh you look like that Prince! What's his name?...." To which, with a sigh, I replied "Prince Harry by any chance?"... Seems wherever I …

My Kiwi adventure (work in progress)

... cream while repositioning my chair from under the canopy where all the other patrons were seated and into the direct 30 degree sunshine, this was to much eye brow raising and amusement from the locals and the saying "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" seemed most apt at that point. Anyway what could an hour of Australian sun possibly do to my Lilly white winter skin..... More on that later!

Having enjoyed my lunch and sun break, I ...
