... story pagoda).

The area is quiet and peaceful. Tranquility is a key characteristic of the area.

On a day off from work, it's a nice place to visit to see tradition and continuity and also to find a place to sit and reflect on life. Nearby gardens and abundant trees provide lots of shade, too.

Ueno park, relay for life

... halfway down the street and they were all still waving, and as I reached the end...yes, still all three waving me off. That has to be a highlight. I spent the rest of the day moving stuff to Retrometro backpackers, which is small and lovely again, then lazed in Ueno park. The next day we woke up fairly early and went to the train station to go to Takayama. Lonely planet said it was a 2 hour ...

From Asakusa, I hopped on the metro over to Ueno Park. A huge park with many temples and shrines. It's also a popular spot for cherry blossom ...

The end to a very long day

... if only it were Fuji's climbing season I would climb it while I'm here. But the hostel is located near a bunch of shrines, since they are everywhere here. The mini Fuji is revered by the neighborhood and is apparently a couple hundred years old. It's amazing how clean it is here, on the streets and in the subways. There is almost no trash anywhere, as well as no trash cans to be found. It may e die to their practice of not eating while walking ...
