Surprise reunion

... the rest of the day in Strasbourg, eating at the same restaurant I ate at last time so he could experience tarte flambee. We also tried some Alsatian wine, which was excellent.<br><br>He went in the cathedral while I waited in the sunshine with Lincoln, so I still haven't seen the interior or gone up the tower. We also went on a mini train tour of the city which was pretty fun, being a serious tourist.<br><br>We headed back to the train station after a quick ...

Strasbourg and Haute Königsburg

Featured Excursion: Strasbourg canal cruise<br>Optional Tour: Haute Königsburg<br><br>"See Strasbourg the way it has been seen through the centuries&#8212;on a canal cruise. In addition to viewing the town's covered bridges, medieval watchtowers and modern building that houses the European Parliament, you will see "Petite France," a picturesque district that seems as if it has been lifted from the pages of a fairy tale"<br><br>(To be continued)<br>

A Brief Stop in Alsace

... the ambience of the town is a site in itself. We walked from our hotel near the train station and crossed a bridge over a branch of L&#8217;Ill River, which surrounds the historical center of Strasbourg. We checked out some stained glass in St. Pierre&#8217;s, we went into a Virgin Records (an interesting experience in another country), we walked through Place Kleber, and we eventually found our way to Place Gutenberg. Gutenberg moved to and lived ...

AMAZING PLACE

... hotel is a big picture of the little prince AND apparently the rooms are decorated after different themes from the book. I didn't get to go in but someday I will definitely stay there. <br>I also saw my first movie in a German theatre which was really cool...I saw Up, I liked it but obviously didn't understand much. Anyway, I definitely recommend it...even just for a few hours!

The final push into germany..so to speak..

... sample the therapeutic waters..well Lauren did, she fell in the public fountain..alittle too enthusiastically reaching for a twig.<br><br>Then back to the caravan for pasta in a pan and of course Black Forest Gateaux...Frankfurt 5 star Hotel for Stu's birthday is on the cards next..hurrah!<br><br>One observation, Germans tend to decorate the gardens of their static caravans with gnomes and model deers, while the Italians opt for a yappy dog on a piece of string.

The cradle of Europe

... and got lost trying to find others. Our feet were tired and our minds were overflowing with information. The Zevisit audiotours were interesting and informative, but we all agreed two in one day was too many. We decided to take a tram back to the centre and browsed in a few shops on our way back to the car. Then we spotted an ice cream cafe and decided it would be nice to sit and relax with a deliciously decadent ice cream dessert.

A nice detour

We caught the wrong train and wound up in Gengenbach. While we were waiting for a train back we met a lady who told us the town had a beautiful old-town section. So we went discovering again. After a good look around we stopped at a pub while we were waiting for the next train and got talking to the owner. Turns out he'd been to Australia on holiday, so we had a good time talking to him until it was time to go.

The bath

... we finished. We decided to hit the same eating establishment that we went to last night. Same table and same waitress. She was glad to see us again. Her name is Claudia. We had sausage, rostis, sauerkraut, vegetables, and salad. A fantastic last meal in Germany. We are off once again....We decided to stop back in Switzerland. We found a small lakeside town that specializes in the vully grape. It is supposed to be good dry white wine. We will let you know...

Working on your birthday sucks!

... old sections of the towns but occasionally cars will come flying past at a very unsafe speed. I had Maya in the pram and turned around to talk to one of the guys in our group and absent mindedly let go of the pram only to have a passerby grab it as it rolled down the slope towards a bus that had decided to come up the street! Not quite in nanny mode I think! Oops! That would not have been a nice birthday present!
