... me of our trip to Montserrat in Barcelona. The top gave some of the most incredible views I’ve ever seen, over the city, the countryside, and the mountains already tipped in snow. I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank whoever wrote the introductory paragraph to Salzburg in Let’s Go Europe, because after reading it, we were like, “Huh, sounds pretty cool. Why don’t we just ...
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria cmvanacker

After an easy taxi ride to the bus-stop (we decided to splash out after the stressy morning in Cesky...) we rode our bus to the city of Salzburg (as a required stop on the way to Munich), laughing all the way with our very entertaining tourguide (reminded us of 'Pee Wee Herman'), who gave us the standard safety message we hear on every busride, in three different versions, even including a rap version and a Michael Jackson tribute version. He also played music clips from the ...
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria dan-and-dee... She wore all black, had black hair and black stockings. Her hair was a crazy mess and she smoked...a lot! I think she was drinking by 11am too. Anyway, nice lady that let us use her kitchen. Our room was pretty sweet too. We had a sink and a shower "cabin". It really was just a portable shower. It was plugged in and sitting on the carpet. So weird but really cool.

We spent the day wandering around Salzburg. Much ...
Salzburg, Austria unbound... the top of the mountain are also a bit on the narrow side. A large section was also a bit scary because there was construction work being done that closed one lane so there was only one skinny shared lane remaining, and at times I wondered how a car any bigger than ours could squeeze along. We figured there must be another way to the top that our GPS failed to use because there were some large ...
Hallstatt, Upper Austria, Austria travelingdiva... a hard time finding the hotel which is situated in a pedistrian walk-way. Our GPS was taking us to places we had no right to be with a car as I will tell you when I get home. We rode up the side of a mountain today and toured a castle that dated back to Roman Times around 900's. I will send pics as my time is limited. I'm sorry I am unable to upload pic's at this time. Probably won't be able to blog until we reach Amsterdam Friday.
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria cinmarc... Fortress . After the approximately 25 min walk through, we headed out to the real attraction - the Wasserspiel, or 'trick fountains'. Constanze had been before, and knew what to expect, but she kept quiet until we had gone in and sat at the first exhibit. The guide asked some children to come forth as volunteers, and sit on some stools around a large stone table. He was explaining about the summer night parties that would be held here when he reached over ...
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria noni_matt... after lunch every day (e.g.: Apfelstrudel) which suits my fancy much more than Kaffee. Mittagessen isn't always this formal, but it is always the hot meal of the day. Abendessen, or dinner, is a much smaller meal here, usually consisting of bread, vegetable spreads, Butter, meat spreads (look like cat food, I don't eat them), and slices of Fleisch und Käse. Since dessert is after lunch, I am usually left craving some sort of sweetness after Abendessen, which is when my weakness ...
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria macfieldAugust 26-Monday
We left Kitzbuhel at 8:30. There was a brief stop in Berchtesgarden, in Germany, at 10:00. Up on the side of the mountain, we could see Hitler's Eagle’s Nest. It was rather chilling to see that part of history. The bunker is now a restaurant. Our rest stop overlooked a valley filled with wonderful homes. What a view! Back on the bus and on to Salzburg. Time 10:35.
