Day 20.. Farewell Hiddensee, a LONG journey home

A travel blog entry by adventurenonni

The last day at hiddensee was lovely, we awoke, went down to the beach and swam with Johnathon and Stephan. We were then joined by marc and we had another swim, and skimmed rocks along the water. The beach here is very flat with no waves, or very very tiny waves. It's a combination of sand and rocks and is not nearly as salty as the Mediterranean or even at home. It was also a bit of an eye opener because we were almost the only people that ...

Day 18 and 19 the the Blue Ribbon

A travel blog entry by adventurenonni

We awoke today at about 7am to a beautiful breakfast prepared by Erika. It was so lovely, there was a variety of bread and cheese, scrambled eggs, herbed butter, sausages, dips and tea. I don't know how she did it after the previous night! After a long breakfast chat, showers and a great deal of organising, we were on our way to Hiddensee, this time by ferry. Today marks the day of the blue ribbon, a race from Stralsund to hiddensee. It's a famous race in the region, where people ...

A travel blog entry by adventurenonni

After he went through safety procedures we were away, sailing on the Baltic, beautiful weather and with great people. Wow what a life! After a few hours of ...

Rasender Roland

A travel blog entry by tom.solstad.5

This adorable steam engine which is kept in EXCELLENT condition, reminds one of the famous children's story of Thomas and His Friends. It's an old steam train that travels from town to town in Ruegen on one track. There are two tracks at the stations so that trains going in different directions can use the track at the same time. The sounds and dynamics of this train are hypnotic and it is a highlight of Ruegen that is a must ...

Germany's largest Island

A travel blog entry by tom.solstad.5

Rugen Island (Insel Rugen) is Germany's largest island. It offers a great variety of scenery, with chalk cliffs and sandy beaches. The Huns once ruled here, it was then fortified by Slavs, then ruled by Danes and Swedes. In 1815 Rugen came under Preussian rule, and in 1936 it was linked to ...
