Walked into town and had my haircut. A great feeling to have it cut after so long. Then to the bakery to say hi to Eva. We went for a walk in the afternoon to the Makkum beach and a quiet beer. To Harlingen as on the Dutch coast and close to Afsluitdijk where we planned to cross the following day. Even though a busy fishing village and ferry terminal, it still retained its old world charm and character. The "Bruine Vloot" is a traditional sailing fleet comprised of Klippers, Tjalks and Aken....... all double dutch to me, but absolutely fascinating.

... room walls are covered in huge portraits of royals, and draped in red velvet curtains. There was a wedding reception in the next room across. We are unable to pay for anything. The first time we tried, Tim was quite sternly told 'no, and don't do that again!'. Another time Juliet quietly said 'no no it's an insult'. She is a little more down to earth and aware of regular people. Falkert has been overly hospitable and lovely to us, and quite clearly realizes that we're different. ...
