... the street to sleep in. The woman had to have my passport. Oh no. I forgot. I hastily traipsed around looking for a copy shop. Finally I found one and the man printed a copy of my passport that I had in my email. (For about 5 cents) and I went back to the hotels, hoping one of them would accept it.

The original lady was happy with this document, thank god, and I got me a banh mi sandwich for dinner and passed out at 7 p.m.

After having a mini pre-sleep night terror, I decided to put in my headphones and read, better to out last the music rather than try and sleep through it. Fortunately it ended shortly after 11. Then we had the dotting ceremony, and then the races. Seemed no reason for the way the teams were split into 3 groups, but I think in hindsight, it was to give the local teams the best advantage. We got about $850 for participating. First prize was about $5000 or 45000 ...

    Good morning Vietnam

A travel blog entry by ianvictoria on Mar 16, 2009

We actually arrived in Dongxing (Chinese border) on Sunday night. Thtis was quite worrying as our guide book told us that there are only 3 border crossings to Vietnam from China and this wasn't one of them. In fact this whole town has been completely missed from the guide book! Where are we!!!!! No body in this town speaks English, even the main Hotels couldn't help us. Any way, we knew that we wanted to go to 'Hanoi', and that 1 word was as ...

... the bathroom which was just very marginally clean-ish, but bathrooms in cheap places in China often tend to be less than perfect anyway..) but after coming back from having dinner and flicking on the bathroom light, I found 3 cockroaches! I squished them all with some toilet paper but I feel kinda grossed out.. oh well, it's only one night and I'll survive (I hope)! That's what I get for staying at a 36 yuan/night place near the bus station, I guess. I moved my bed away ...
