... crowd has gathered, someone will cry "Taiyuan" and the crowd will ooh and ahh in a "Oh you mean Taiyuan, sure you should have said" kind of way!
Ticket successfully in hand, we followed our Bus Lady across the road to our sleeper. (She had the most beautiful boots) The bus was filled with the tiniest bunk beds you've ever seen. Just about big enough for a short leprechaun to lie on his side and curl up his feet. (mild exaggeration only)
The bus ...

Taiyuan, Shanxi, China jenny77... multiple wives and hundreds of servants and could get about anything they wanted.
We left the Qiao compound and drove toward Pingyao, which is one of the oldest and best preserved walled cities. On our way there we were told Mr. Cao (Mr. Bai's friend and the provincial deputy governor of Pingyao) was going to meet us and take us to the hotel. We couldn't figure out where we were meeting him b/c they kept saying we'd meet him ...
We get dropped off at the Qingxu service station at 2:30am. There's a 24hr convenient store, we find a row of plastic seats and tries to make it until the sun comes up. We have been on the road nonstop for 18 hours, have to wait 7 more hours before we can find a bed.
Taiyuan, Shanxi, China whereskyle... we would show us one. We told her we'd like to buy her lunch and she said ok. It was nice to have her along as she explained about the area specialty Chongdong fish. Unfortunately it cost 240 yuan so we got a different fish but cooked the same way for 40 yuan. You ask what kind of fish for 240? Catfish. Keep in mind the exchange rate is about 6.5 yuan to $1.00 After a good and not expensive lunch Lucy asked ...

Taiyuan, Shanxi, China masovy_kasparek... have taken the ancients longer than this!! The site of the Army of Terracotta Warriors itself was awesome. There were five buildings that we went into: the first building housed two half-sized bronze chariots. The detail of these chariots was amazing, but sadly the rooms, in my opinion, were somewhat poorly lit, which made it harder the take in the entire splendor of these chariots. The second building was were we got to ...
Xian, Shanxi, China kasey_kid... its very slow and you only get 30 mins, a beer, pizza and getting your washing done. You can also swap horror stories and watch the brand new movies which aren't even released yet! Mac liked Xian as it was so smelly he didn't need to wash for three whole days. His fave place to eat was in a Japanese restuarant, when he remembers the name he will put it in. Mac thought he was going to have to sell his ...
Xian, Shanxi, China easton-martinBeck: Yes, sorry Jess, it's me and not Bill again. He's sleeping. So we're in very un-sunny Pingyao, which is a small city that is still completely surrounded by its city walls (quite rare in China). It's nice, but unfortunately quite touristy. Every building in the centre of town is either a hotel, a restruant or a souvenier shop. Although, once you walk a little way away from the main tourist area, it suddenly becomes very un-touristy. Much like the hutongs (small streets) in Beijing ...
