        ... here again. Des and Cian a are waiting at the bus below. We walk down through a bear park on the way down, very random. Black bears are in large enclosers. Visitors can through them sweet potatoes as a treat. Don't know what to think about it...

        The next stop is lunch, just normal Chinese food with the group before head on to the Ming tombs. Fed and watered we're back on the road. Peter gives us more information about the dynasties of China. The Ming dynasty, ching and ...

        ... even as adults it would be tough. We know that we will love her beyond compare, that she will never go hungry, that she will be safe and cared for - but she doesn't know that and it will take awhile for her to understand it.

        A guy came over to us who spoke perfect English and introduced himself as being a local Policeman who was 'moonlighting' in his brothers bar!

        We ended up staying there for a couple of hours and all the clientel wanted to have there photo's taken with us. I suppose that the thing we have to remember is that these parts of China rarely see a western face.

        ... all had lunch - wonderful organic vegetables grown here - and set off again. However, it was such a beautiful place and area that I decided to stay and head out early in the morning (7.30 am) for the next section - a gruelling climb with the dreaded famous 24 bends on the way up.

        On our second day in Lanzhou, we went to White Hill Pagoda Park, one of the two main parks in the city. We took a cable car across the Yellow River, up a mountain, and to the park on top. The park itself wasn't much to see, but there was a small, almost hidden tea area where Sam and I drank apple juice, listened to the Chinese park-goers play cards, laughed over stories about our families, and enjoyed the shade.
