We then caught the small ferry across the river and went to Hubuxiang street for more dry noodles with sesame paste, and spicy potatoes, before returning back to the hotel via the ferry to get a taxti (very difficult!) to get to the station for our 5pm train back to Nanjing.

Will and I got the 0905 train to Wuhan, Hubai Province, another old concession port on the Yantgtze River, arriving in Hankou at 12.18, and got a taxi to the Holiday Inn Riverside.

We enjoyed good food (as always) and Anna’s aunt bought us gifts, which were traditional Tibetan necklaces that her husband had brought all the way from Tibet following his recent motorcycle adventure there. They came in male and female form and I donned mine politely, although Anna’s parents understood that I wasn’t going to make a habit of wearing it.
