... The second day I hired a bike ( old men are not banned from hiring a bike here) and rode out to two other villages about 25km away - Sixi and Yancun. The owner of the hostel came with me on his bike for the ride. A nice ride and a chance to see the countryside a bit closer up. Lots of rice fields in the valley floors (quite high hills all around), tea plantations on the sides of some of the hills, and the usual vegetable crops - corn, beans, potatoes, peppers etc. Lots ...

... the city ( part of the city ) - the Changchun Temple and the Guiyuan Temple ( Taoist and Buddhist respectively ). It's getting to be "just another temple" though. Lots of rain so my walks had to be timed carefully so as not to get wet. And pretty heavy rain on one of the days. Not a lot of Western tourists - in fact I didn't see any for my whole stay in ...

Wen, my friend, has been teaching me Chinese through the repetition of very difficult texts, the idea being that if I'll understand it one day. So this poem was a bit of light relief. The best part was that a painter who we had seen painting a huge painting of a swimming carp inside the teahouse was sitting next to us having his lunch as we recited the ...

    ... we
arrived on board, we discovered that more than half of the people on the cruise
had been delayed several hours in Shanghai due to weather! They eventually
arrived that evening, but had missed the museum completely. Dinner was tasty
and we ordered from 5 choices on the menu. I had a lemon sole with a lovely
sauce and Dale had some pork ribs. We dined with the Aussies from our group.
