We drive into the Republic of Ireland which is 32,524 square miles, 32 counties and 4.6 million people. In the 2011 Census the population had finally reached the same number as before the famine. The Republic is part of the EU and uses the Euro. We are told that a Hooley = fun, Craic = chat. We cross the River Finn. Donegal means Fort of Foreigners as the Vikings settled ...
... of them well marked. If I was driving I could get along well if I remembered to drive on the left wide of e highway. But it would be a bummer to have to pay attention to driving and not see the beautiful scenery. The traffic moves good the only real traffic jams we have seen have occurred when we enter a town during rush hour. Weather has been good. Mixed and comfortable cool. When it rains it's just a mist. But so far not much of ...
Leaving the Connacht Hotel after a great breakfast, Ian's full English, mine Prunes & cornflakes as usual. Stopping at Knock ( meaning Hill) there was a vision of Joseph, Our Lady Mary & St John the Evangelist, were 15 witnesses the Apparition on 21st August 1879, so life like one of the witnesses was going to kiss Our Lady's feet and 50 years later the only surviving 3 witnesses were interviewed and each detail ...
Giant Stepping Stones to Derry. Today we crossed over the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland. A pleasant 2 hr sea voyage where fortuitously the bar was open... Happy Days...! When we got back we went to the enchanted forest to help clean up after the picnic, but they were not finished so I ended up face painting instead and I was painting butterflies and all sorts of fun things on the kids. Historical Traveler Reviews Donegal Manor & Cookery School
Lovely spot !
As a tour guide charged with ensuring visitors to Ireland see the best of Ireland, it was a joy to have stayed with Michael & Sian Breslin in their beautiful guesthouse. Just go even for the hospitality and the breakfast! A beautiful place to stay in a beautiful part of the country.
Felt like home
This was our second visit to Donegal Manor and will certainly not be our last. We will be getting married in Donegal this July and will stay at Donegal Manor. Thank God for Sian and Michael who have been nothing but friendly and helpful, making my family and me feel at home. The building is immaculate, as are the rooms that have everything you need(and the best shower i have ever had in my life!). Breakfast is outstanding, whatever you want you can have. I have a 2 year old little girl who thoroughly enjoyed her stay in her little bed and all the fuss that was made of her. I look forward to returning in the summer with a whole bunch of my family and friends where we will all get ready on the morning of the wedding. I honestly wouldn't rather be anywhere else!! Cant wait.
Absolutely Perfect - Well Kept Secret
We had made reservations to stay in a Dublin hotel over St.Patrick's weekend, but as the time approached neither of us had the energy for a city break!! Having checked out accomodation in Donegal on the internet, Donegal Manor certainly came well recommended and appeared to "fit the bill" for a relaxing, homely break.
We have just returned from a 2 night stay, and can honestly claim it has been one of our best short breaks. Sian, Michael and Sean were full of warmth and sincerity in making our stay special - very knowledgable on the local area, as good as any concierge in a 5 star hotel!! The accomodation itself was faultless - exceptionally clean and totally relaxing and comfortable.
If you're looking for 5 star comfort in Donegal book this place, a well kept secret!!
Wot a weekend!!
Wot a weekend we had in Donegal Manor, we wanted the weekend to be special and thanks to the hospitality at the Donegal Manor it surpassed all we expected. I would have no problems recommending Donegal Manor and would encourage anyone who is considering a trip to Donegal Town to go and enjoy the five star treatment.
We spent a wonderful week at Donegal Manor recently. The accomodation was outstanding having the cleanest most comfortable high quality bedrooms, as good as any top class hotel. The hospitality shown by Sian and her family made us feel very welcome. We can fully recommend the fabulous breakfast and wonderful mouth watering home baked cakes we were served by the roaring open fire. We can not wait to return. Fantastic!
Stayed in Donegal Manor for a long weekend and it was an excellent location to relax and forget all about work and any other worries that I might of had! The staff were very welcoming, and were always up for a chat.
Coupled with the lovely location of Donegal town itself, Donegal Manor was the icing on the cake. I will most certainly return.
Best in Show
I stayed in 11 B&Bs while in Ireland a couple weeks ago. This was the best of the bunch (stayed on August 22). My room was enormous with many amenities, breakfast was very good and couldn't have asked for a more helpful or enthusiastic hostess than Sian Breslin. Wish I could have stayed longer than one night, I'm not sure what more you need for E60. Tremendous value.
We have just returned after staying 2 nights in Donegal Manor. What a wonderful place, a must for those wishing to stay in Donegal Town (1 mile outside) an ideal base for touring S West Donegal.
Excellent, simply excellent!
Best six days of my two week vacation. While all the accomadations I had in Ireland were good, without a doubt the accomodations at Donegal Manor are superior. Shan and Michael Breslin are gracious hosts. They have an outstanding facility, and the staff are great. If you are going to stay in northwest Ireland, and particularly if you are going to Donegal, the Donegal Manor should be the only B&B on you list.
Great place to stay, highly recommended!!!
My girl friend and I stayed Donegal Manor for 2 nights before Christmas and we were pleasently suprised at the quality of the accommodation and the excelent hospiality we received. The rooms where lovely, really high quality with everthing you need, even broadband on tap! The delux room we stayed in was great it had a massive comfy King Size bed and loads of space.
The accommodation is situated in a really nice setting, surrounded by rolling hills and running streams, just a few minutes walk from Donegal Town.
I have stayed in a few Hotels and B&B's in the area before which where ok but I can't fault Donegal Manor at all, a perfect place to stay and excelllent value for money.
