Donetsk, Ukraine backstrength... I could encounter police on the way. Should I take my visa out of my passport? They'd almost certainly spot that it's a fake, and it could get me in bigger trouble. No. I decided to leave it in. If they spotted it, I would just say I'd legitimately bought it, and I hadn't known it was a fake. Even so, I hoped I wouldn't meet the police. To conserve energy, I rode buses and trains. At one point, a little policeman came on the ...
Dombasa, Ukraine modernoddyseus... hearing we got our things together and took a 2 hour drive to Lugansk to catch a 7:00 P.M. train to Kiev. It was no fun lugging 3 heavy suit cases and several carry-ons over train tracks to get to our train station. I had read about Ukraine trains, and all I read was true. The restrooms were pretty filthy and the rooms hot. The rooms were much smaller than even cruise ship rooms! The ride was bumpy, but I slept well. We arrived in Kiev at 11:00 A.M. the next morning.
Lugansk, Ukraine arnoquon... nice gifts. We gave each kid a gift bag with alot of small gifts like flashlights, bubbles, etc. and one large, more expensive gift. After the kids opened their presents some other people came so we decided to get lunch. We went to the restaurant near the orphanage that has an English menu. After lunch we went back and spent some time with Anastasia. When it turned dark ...
Lugansk, Ukraine arnoquon... Grandma, Grandpa, JM, and Cameron a couple of times. She gets all tickled, shy, and flustered and can't remember what to say when on the phone with them. I don't know that she has ever talked with anyone on the phone before. She is excited about coming to America and meeting all her family. She looks through the photo album I brought and names each person (and pet). She asks questions, and is connecting who is who in all those pictures. It is ...
Lugansk, Ukraine arnoquon... shoes, church clothes, etc. Basically everthing! Hope this helps. I've had a great time buying gifts for the children at the orphanage. We were buying for all the children in Anastasia's class (now 21 children). In addition, we bought approximately 20 pairs of sports shoes (for everyday use) for the older boys in the orphanage. This is where the need was. The director told us that the $1K we gave to the orphanage will be used for renovation and repair of the building.
Lugansk, Ukraine arnoquon... place was a cemetary. They had pictures of the deceased on the graves and lots of picnic tables and benches. I imagine our driver thought "crazy American tourists want to take pictures here". When we returned to Severdonesk, we had the driver drop us off at the orphanage so we could spend some time with Anastasia. Our driver only charged us $40 for the trip. Great price considering he spent all day with us and the cost of automobile fuel now.
Lugansk, Ukraine arnoquon... the kids in the orphanage. Every day we take some kind of treat to the kids in Anastasia's class. They are very grateful and draw us pictures and say "thank you". The kids are all adorable and we wish we could bring home more than one. Ukraine law only allows one child unless they have a sibling. We continue to practice English words and phrases with Anastasia. She is facinated with Color Wonder ...
Lugansk, Ukraine arnoquonSunday: Lancie writing- On Sundays all the people come out- it is the only day school is out and most people are off work. We discovered a very large (very packed) outdoor market. We will go back during the week to see if it is crowded. Our facilitator, Luba, left last night to go back to Kiev for a meeting with a US agency and some diplomats regarding adoption of older children. So, Arno and I are on our own for a few days. It's OK- we know our way around. We know ...
Lugansk, Ukraine arnoquon... his motorcycle. Later he invited me to stay with his family in his house for dinner and even for over night. We were working late in nicgt on my bike to repair a little problem, so he could work on it and seemed to be happy to work on a BMW motorycle, his favourite branche... The night to 21st July was probably the worst night in the wild. At my spot just anywhere of nowhere there came an ukrainian guy by chance, holding a bottle of wodka and two litres of beer. It's the ...
