... unfinished houses being lived in!
Back to the trulli houses - one was only 14 square meters in total and with a family of seven living in it - 3 slept upstairs, 4 down stairs, the kitchen was the size of a closet and toilet outside. The walls are white washed limestone and the roof is like a grey slate stone stacked into a cone shape. Some have painted Christian symbols on the roofs which is recent addition this century, and clay pots which I'm not sure why. As ...

... is that down south in Italy is very different from the well known areas of Tuscany, Lakes, Dolomites etc. Will see what Sicily brings. 6.11.12 Alberobello to Crotone. Pouring rain, windy, but we got into the car and set Bruce for Cortone and true to form he led us and we did about 20 Kilometres through narrow streets lined with rock walls, similar to what you see in the English countryside. Apparently every year it is compulsory to white wash all the buildings and so it really looked clean, white and very pretty. Instead of 'trullis' it has 'truddhis' with tops which have peaked gabled rooves instead and do seem bigger. We hope to frame some of today’s photos and it is one place we actually thought we would like to live. We had a lovely time. At one ...

... village in Italy. Lots of nice home, views, alleyways etc. and it was more spacious, with easy parking and very much enjoyed by us both. We had lunch at what looked like a simple restaurant but it was very nice and looked like a cave inside. Orrieche with broccoli and breadcrumbs – very tasty and Grilled beef with rocket & cheese and salad. Every day we order just two courses and share it. Back home again. Lovely place but the internet is not working very well at all ...

... are a lot of olive trees round here and many white buildings. The trulli buildings are cone shaped and look very cute. It is nice and quiet here and we have our own kitchen again which is wonderful. We set out and did some shopping at the Conad supermarket and tonight we cooked at home – yeh. Pasta and salad – only one course – portion sizes we wanted. We really loved being with relatives but it is nice to be on our own ...
