We figured we only needed to spend 1 night in Verona as there wasn't a lot to do, plus the lack of any hostels meant we had to stay in a hotel (La Magnolia). We were right.
Got to Verona from Venice early afternoon and wandered around town. The Arena was awesome. So huge and overwhelming inside ...
......... So apparently the title is a quote from Romeo and Juliet...... You learn something new every day!
So we only stopped here for a couple of hours as a rest stop but it was pretty cool.
Verona is a very pretty town that is famous for Juliet Capulet's balcony and the entrance to the balcony is where all the lovey dovey couples write ...
... well. Well, untill he tried to order vinegar in the fruit market instead of Dill (he had just learned / memorized the work for Dill (aneto) but under the pressure, it came out as vinegar (aceto). Otherwise, am very impressed with his language skills. A few more days and he could totally pass as a native, especially with shorts and sandles like he wore today in late october.
So now we are in ...
... on and on, usually going in circles. In between all the internal struggling, I would have moments of pure delight, like when we took the boys to the swimming pool and my Italian teacher/English student bought me a cup of hot chocolate. But hot chocolate over here is not thin, weak chocolate water that Americans drink. No, no, no. This hot chocolate is more like hot pudding, I couldn't fathom the idea of drinking it, it looked too thick. It ...
Desenzano Del Garda, Lombardy, Italy alliemarieAn early morning as we were heading to Venice for the day which was a bit over an hour by train from Verona. Both Greg and I had been before and it hadn't been our favourite place, but we wanted the girls to at least see it. We had warned them that we wouldn’t be going on a gondola as it is over 75 Euros ($150 AUD) for a ride. Katelyn said that we had already been on a gondola ride in Las Vegas so we didn’t have to ...

A day to explore Verona so we started at the Arena where we bought a Verona Card which covers Verona's major attractions and proved to be good value as kids only then had to pay 1 Euro to get into whatever we decided to do. We usually avoid these as with the kids we usually don’t rush from one place to the other. The Arena was pretty impressive- it is a Roman Amphitheatre which is used today for traditional operas such as Aida and also other concerts ...
... is. This looks like a miniature Colosseum. I felt like a coffee but Greg didn't so Tara and I went into a caffe/patisserie and I ordered a caffe latte, not realising that that was actually an espresso with a very small amount of milk- it was nice, but didn’t take long to drink.
We couldn’t believe how many people were out and about. All of the shops were open and the streets were crowded which is something ...
So I could say that I didn't find internet yesterday to post my blog update. But that would be a lie. Fact is that I walked right by a library with free wifi, but I didn't have my laptop on me and I just wasn't in the mood to go sit on a computer for an hour. I know. Selfish, right? Maybe even narcissistic. ;)
Anyway, I was having a grand time in Verona and was in search of more canella gelato and I felt that quest was more important than ...
... ants nest. not the best pitch we have ever had. We spend the first day lounging by the lake, this part of the lake is dirty and nothing like the romantic picturesque images we were looking forward to. nevertheless it was relaxing the food was good and the beer was cold.
what more could I ask for?
a pitch in the shade away from the ants and the children, too much to ask?
