At midday on the 30th of October we extracted Sharkita from the very tight berth that we'ed been given in Rabat, and motored round to the customs dock in Bouregreg River to sign out of Morocco. Police and Customs arrived and then disappeared with our passports and boat papers. They stamped our passports and gave us back our papers, wished us Bon Voyage and said we could leave. Martin and Doreen joined us for a sail aboard Tethys and a swim off Papagayo beach. Then we had a lunch aboard before returning to the marina just before the sun set! A lovely day.

The adventure begins....

After making the crossing from Lanzarote to Gran Canaria I can quite see where this saying comes from...it was horrific. Two hours into the 15 hour journey and my plan to test whether I get seasick started to go badly wrong. What was I thinking? Why didn´t I take my pills? 3 - 4 meter swell, high winds and waves coming every few seconds. Anyway 3 major lessons were learnt that night...firstly take seasickness pills ...

... and there were some of the biggest most lavish craft on the water in there.

There sure is a lot of money about. Porto Calero is lovely and great coffee in the marina too. We saw a lot of ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruiser) boats getting ready for their departure mid November and some of the World rally boats too. - None looked like Dark Horse!!!

... ahead. The rest of the rally had departed throughout the week before, so Mercury Rising and Jackame were left to bring up the rear, both of us having had to wait for parts, but moreover, better wind conditions! Antigua here we come!

... by 26 square miles. At fire mountain the ground underfoot was warm and when the red gravel was picked up it almost burnt our hands. A hole in the ground was used to set fire to some gorse and a natural barbecue using volcanic heat also provided all the heat for cooking in the adjacent restaurant.

... architecture in this area reminded me of places I visited in Havana. People – I mean locals are very friendly, but don’t know much English. With the little Spanish that I know, the English and Greek, I could understand. Besides in Greek we have many identical words.

There are clouds in the sky today, and I don't feel like going swimming.

The stroll is great because there is a sea breeze that makes my walk pleasant.

The apartments are huge indeed with many amenities. A small refrigerator, much bigger than a mini bar found in other hotels, a toaster, a microwave oven, a kitchen stove, a big table and a sofa with a very comfortable big bedroom and bathroom. A huge wardrobe for clothes and a saving box.

We are on an all inclusive basis, ourselves ...
