Praia da Falesia and Faro

We made it to Faro, our last stop on the southern shore of Algarve. Trying to avoid the concrete nightmare and crowds of Albufeira beaches, we drove slightly to the east to reach a 3km stretch of white sand called Praia da Falesia. Still pretty busy, but as people were spread out it wasn't so bad, and the water was the warmest so far (maybe ...

... with our room and the price was right when compared with other options in Tavira. But there are many things not really up to standard. Our room was spacious and had small balcony. The fridge was limited to a "fresh" temperature, adequate but not like a normal fridge (at 40F). And the "airco" is really "climate control" which the hotel controls. It felt more like a vent with mildly cooled air blowing. Most of the time it was okay ...

They had only just got the dog yesterday and had her one night. She ...

We caught a train through the Algarve and got off two stops after tavira. This town was quite small and less touristed. You could tell by the lack of pathways, and no one was trying to sell us anything. It was a perfect sunny day and only a little windy. We checked into a campsite near the station, set up our tent, locked our packs in the tent then headed out to explore. The streets were all narrow cobble stone with white and pastel painted houses. ...

... outside of town at the Altinho de Sao Gems, a spectacular eyrie where you can see for miles over the surrounding plains. We sat in the shade of a white chapel on top of the eyrie enjoying the view and our tuna and rolls. We drove through the Parque Naturale to reach the imposing bridge over the Guadiana River, a beautiful backdrop to the town of Mertola, another town steeped in history on the Alentejo route. We really could easily and happily have stayed at any ...
