First day in Portugal

... and so far, it does not disappoint. Arrived at Castro Marim which is a beautiful little town with massive hilltop fort and castles that are open during the day. WE left that for later and found a 3 km beach with glorious sands that is the start of the famous Algarve. Too windy for much lying out as we were shotblasted by the sand. Not too many swimmers either as it was suitable only for the hardy.

... The street was full of People, mainly families all sitting around eating, drinking and generally enjoying life. Australia could learn so much from the Spaniards. Streets full of tables, chairs and people. Couldn't help wondering whether the local councils in Spain have the same approach as our councils back home, I think not. A shared meal of 5 or 6 tapas, 2 beers and 2 wines cost a total of €23 (about $30). I'm thinking Spain is an OK ...

... lots of bashing on the transom, but at least when she turned and the tide was going out we got a rather peaceful mornings sleep.
Having checked the weather and seeing that it was going to blow N'ly quite strong Gen
checked the charts and found a nice bend in the river which should provide us with shelter.
The river, Guadiana is just so pleasant. In places it reminds me of Australia, with the
burnt soil and eucalyptus trees. The river runs in between ...

... was going to be weather bound again for his birthday but he wasn't. We took the dinghy to Tavira, approx 2 mile from where we had anchored and wandered around.
