... into the cathedral. Only cost 2 euros each and that gave us entry to the Cathedral and the Museum. There were also other options, but this seemed the easiest to start with. While we were waiting in line, a number of female tourists were turned away from the cathedral line because of their inappropriate dress. They are pretty strict at the door - no short shorts, dresses have to be only two fingers above the knee, no shoulders showing. It was all pretty funny - and ...

... afternoon, Nathan, Tilly and I, had our first of what I hope will be many excursions into Milan. We took the bus from near our apartment to a metro stop and then the metro to the Duomo. It was pretty surreal to climb the stairs out of an underground train station see the enormous cathedral gradually emerge, step by step. Thank you Miryam for your observation.

... and ask for some bottles. This is where I made my big "rookie error". Instead of following the riders as they rode off back to their buses, I went to the presentation area more to have a look at the enormous crowd than to watch the presentation. Then when I decided to find the buses I didn't know where to go and by the time a found them they were either packed up or packing up. So I just had to look in envy at other people's bags overflowing with ...

... of the cathedral during which we saw the pillars, crosses and stained glass windows that are a major part of the experience. We then took an elevator over half of the way up to the roof, (60 steps as opposed to 250) and saw each statue up close and had a spectacular view of Milan and the Piazza del Duomo. Right outside the front entrance of the Duomo is a statue of the first King of Italy, King Vittorio Emanuele II on a horse, facing the grand Galleria named for him. We ...
