... and using bucket baths which consists of using a small basin full of water and pouring over yourself to rinse off. At many times I am unable to leave my village bc of lack of public transportation due to a corrupted system and roads being washed out. I like the idea of embracing the situation taking a 5 mile hike, using a hollowed out tree trunk as a canoe and crossing the Sabaki river (which is supposed to have hippos and crocodiles but have not seen yet) then ...
Garashi, Coast, Kenya mns9184... a traditional Digo house. This is proving to be a lot of fun (lots of climbing in the rafters doing the makuti roof and getting chafu-sana doing the mud walls) and we are learning some good techniques to use when we go home. Anyone need a new garden shed?

Two Fridays ago we went to San Siro - the local Kwale Music Hall and met lots of people who were amazed that their Mzungu friends could dance. We should mention that we have been ...

Malindi, Kenya journeykenya... Planeten. WHAT ...
Malindi, Kenya brisko... much of the coral is dead due to "el nino"(warming of the oceans waters)and there was a smattering of little fishes, no sharks. In keeping with my tradition of eating traditional foods around the world, I recently ate Kenyan "matumbo", cow's intestines!! A little on the fatty side but I ate it all.
Malindi, Kenya sgaudun... and back to class. They all seemed a bit bemused but loved it and a few tried to paint themselves before we got them to the basin to clean it off! We hope it will last a while and that if it fades it can be updated by new volunteers. Andy
Mombasa, Kenya andyb... the hospital from Friday in order to fund another week of running the school. Fair play to Paddy O'Shea for undertaking to set up a website for Jambo Jipya. In fact thanks to all of you who offered help. I'm still working with Christine as to what should go up on it. She gave me copies of some of the letters she had sent off looking for funding that I could maybe use. Now I know that africans just say it like it is at the best of times but these letters were riddled ...
Mtwapa, Mombasa, Kenya wardie... on the beach and in the village, tested the pool in the hotel, eaten loads and are planning on having a lazy time here before we join the overland trip on 24th July. We did go diving here at the nearby Malindin Marine Park. It was great with lots of big and colourful fish including spotted grouper (huge!) and big turtles swimming and lying about.
Malindi, Kenya mpoelzl... and the sludge comes out the other end as good fertilizer. They use the methane like propane for cooking gas. They also had plenty of ducks, geese and chickens, whose house were built above their own tilapia ponds. They even raise crocodiles. They were showcasing solar cookers, and they had their own market where they sold fruits, veggies, meat and other farm products, like baobab honey (too bad they were out of it). I was feeling phlegmy and decided I needed to take ...
Mtwapa, Kenya cpricci... 52 days will take us all the way to Cape Town via a list of exotic countries. We're looking forward to it, especially the prospect of having 20 other westerners to ***** with/about - who is shagging the driver? who do we all hate? or who snores/smells the most? Hopefully we won't be the answer to any of the above quesions. Well at least not the first two anyway! Speak to you all from Tanzania. Love Combie and Sarah Emails from you all would be nice too!
