    So, after all the waiting we did, we are actually in Germany! The plane wasn't very comfortable, and a couple of us were forced into seats that didn't recline (making sleeping hard, painful work) but we didn't crash and burn, so thats a plus! But anyway, we're in Germany now! A new country and continent! This is really cool for those of us who have never been out of the country before! Well, I guess that's all that has happened so far.     Yes! So magically, the flight managed to squeeze in over THIRTY extra people including us! It was supposed to leave at 2am, but it left around 4. There were even empty seats so that we could move and lay down/stretch out! Very nice.

    ... was open so we gingerly went in and there were 2 lock keepers around and they were ignoring us! We tied up and waited and then the gates shut behind us. There was only 1 place to tie up to on a very small bollard and as we got higher it was no good, but as this was a small lock it didn't matter. The lock keeper then came to see us and John had to sign for our “zapper” for the French automatic locks. The lock itself was very old and had a plaque ...
