... actual term!) you get a book with the contact details of all the wwoof host. All you have to do is choose which part of the country you want to go to, then read the profiles of the wwoof hosts in that area and decide who you'd like to go and stay with, get in touch with them and take it from there. The work is unpaid, you do 4-6 hours per day in exchange for accommodation and food. I would have liked to have earned money while I was doing the farm work, but had ...

1770 to Rainbow Beach (but no pot of gold!)

... craters were formed. According to the leaflet, “their location, origin and unique mixture have baffled international geologists and still remain a world-proclaimed unsolved mystery”!

Interesting as they were, the mystery is how they can justify charging us $7.50 each to go into their back yard to see the craters. Probably it’s because most people feel as we did, that by the time you’ve travelled all the way there, you may as well pay the money to ...

Dolphins!

... handed a fish, and told to wade into the water up to my knees, and then a rather battered and scarred indo-pacific humpback dolphin called Mystique came and took my fish!! Yay!
Apparently he is the alpha male, and has some bite wounds from other dolphins on him, and he had also been attacked by a shark a few weeks back, resulting in ...

Gympie is Stupid

... which had been tortured in cages, or dead cows which had hopefully been free to run about on fields of grass before being slaughtered, so I chose the dead cow option, and managed to squeeze some information out of them about the missionaries they have recently sent to Africa... except that this seemed, in the end, to be as much about the missionary's desire to be a tourist in Africa as it was about saving people's souls. *sigh*

Christmas & New Years

... bellied fish that bloats itself when in distress, which of course is when you hook it on your line. MrJ and I have taken many walks on shore; at this time of year you do need to lather up and protect your skin from the hoards of mossies and especial for me the sneaky, silent invisible sand flies. Close by the most popular spot to anchor is a sandy beach and back off the beach, in the shade of the trees is a small picnic ground that has been provided by Parks and Wildlife Services ...

Trip on the Gympie steam train, The Valley Rattler

... 6 carriages attached to the engine, all wooden structures, beautifully restored. The platform was decorated with large garden beds in full bloom. There was a cafeteria where home made food and drinks could be purchased. Needless to say, we felt it was our duty to support the locals!! The 1st two carriages were large open carriages with re-upholstered with high back seating, set up to face each other in sets, with the booths ...

Catch up with the past

... The children enjoyed fun filled days with Jess and Dan. Dan and Matt patiently taught us to surf with a trip to Noose Beach. The next day we then travelled up to Rainbow Beach with quick dip before a heavy rainstorm. We then headed back to Toowoomba via Esk for our final preparations.

... stern is level with the marina pontoons. Order of the day -to make sure that Alana Rose is secure; this means that all lines are secure, all fenders are secure - not only on the dockside but on the side facing the other boat that has no fenders, another fender is put over the side as a step-up to come on board, top covers are pulled out of the forward lockers and put up, the back covers rolled out and dropped. All this must be done before we can even think about going ashore; it is ...

I Love FREE stuff!

... anyway but the lady at the info center strongly discouraged us to go to Fraser Island on our todd as there was nothing there and we couldn't even swim in the sea because of the tiger sharks (major breading ground for them ...). Though she did want to sell us a tour of the island for 150 bucks each... so it was a no no. We decided to turn back and head to Tin Can Bay - earlier we saw this sign that we ...

Indochinese humpback dolphins are nice

The sun woke us up at around 6:30 and we headed into Tin Can Bay to feed dolphins. There was only one of them but it was pretty sweet. Me and max each got some fish and fed a dolphin. Not much more complicated than that. Couldn't touch them but it would come right up to us and play and do tricks. Quite a spectacular ...
