Old Salata Street Doha, Qatar, 974-422-1111-
Greetings from Doha, where it is 105 degrees fahrenheit and I already miss Nepal... Oh man, Nepal was good, it was so good. We had such a great time. I thought I'd write a little about the last few days, reflect a little on the trip and introduce Doha. So after my last post, we had our final group dinner at a Thai restaurant. We all talked about Ramesh, our guide, and how great he was. He asked us to give him tips or criticism, but we really didn't have much. Ramesh was a great tour leader, a...

... Two cafeterias, two gyms, two Olympic sized swimming pools, four tennis courts and a massive soccer pitch (I’ll use the term pitch instead of field but not football instead of soccer yet). There’s a new campus for U of C in the works and it’s comforting to know that CNA-Q started where we are and ended up where they are. Despite the lack of bad news/reality in the local news, the global economic conditions have made an impact here and money ...
Doha, Qatar beyondwpgTook the family down the Corniche to see the waterfront and the city. Probably was not the same day but we also viewed the Pearl that is currently under construction. The Pearl is a man made island with high end shopping and living.
Doha, Qatar koobfamilyAfter saying goodbye to my dad, I spent two hours in Doha airport shopping and looking around, waiting to board my plane. My seat on the plane was on the left side of the middle isle, towards the back, so I was happy with the position. I was sat next to two south east asian guys, whose friend was on his own a few rows down. The guy on his own then asked me if I could swap seats with him, so he could sit by his friends. I was a little reluctant to swap seats with him ...
Doha, Qatar ccarew... that are finished are empty (no offices inside). Also, from the signs posted around this "ghost town" it looks like many of the new buildings will be inhabited by State Ministries and other State agencies and organizations. They do seem to build the glorious Communism based on oil! Anyway, we finally got to the souk. When compared to the souks we have seen in Morocco, this one felt more "civilized" (cleaner, more spacious, shop owners were not trying to ...
Doha, Qatar gapostol... waiting for us with open arms, balloons, flowers and champagne at arrivals, it was nice to see a familiar face after such a long journey (not that you can see much of his face, since has taken to wearing a beard!!) we ventured out of the airport to the car and to our surprise found the temp outside quite warm!! (Thanks mom for the jeans idea!!) Since both Jacques and I were supa tired we opted for a quiet night in and ordered ...
Doha, Qatar tarryne... I began the journey home. Everything went more smoothly that I ever could have hoped. Air Uganda was actually nice (new leather seats masking a clearly aging DC-9), and we arrived in Dar Es Salaam 40 minutes before the scheduled arrival time! This gave me more than enough time to get checked into Qatar Airways (and even gave me enough time for the security guard to escort me out of the departure area so that I could change my 70,000 TZ ...
Doha, Qatar ebolabenThis is it! No turning back now - We're on our way! But before we check in there's one more matter to take care of. Besides useful information, Eduardo the doorman also handed us our mail yesterday. BBVA, the Spanish bank I had an account with until a few weeks ago, is claiming I owe them 110e - certainly some mistake, I settled my accounts with them 2 weeks ago - and is threatening to add another 30e to the amount every day if it isn't paid before the 19th. Which ...
Doha, Qatar raquel_chiel... that reaches their ankles, called a thobe, and is worn over short trousers. A head covering, the gutra, is secured with four black tasseled cords, which have been braided. They can wear two different clothes for the gutra. The first one is a pure white sheet, this one is the more formal one. It would be the equivalent of wearing a business suit. The second is a white and red-checkered gutra, this ...
