... to our hotel).

We hung around the hotel and chatted while we waited for our mangrove tour with Juan Brenez. Part of the time, we had to wait in the little dining area because our rooms were being cleaned. Wow, do they take cleaning seriously at this hotel. The maid was in our room for at least and hour and the room was perfect when she was done. Everything was in order, our extra shoes were lined up under the bed and nothing was out of ...

... immigration. Left fingers scanned, right fingers scanned, both thumbs scanned, photo taken, passport stamp awarded. Considering all we wanted to do was transit, this seemed like a bit too much. Oh well, what it did mean was that we were allowed out of the airport, and we took advantage of this to get a breath of fresh (??) air before heading back in and having a late lunch. The next leg of the journey was delayed by around an hour but we were obviously the chosen ...

Day # 3. "Did the Earth move for you?"

... staggering outside onto the balcony where I was standing surveying the situation, only to be greeted by a full on flash of lightning, the heavy rain, wind and the distant howl of the howler monkeys. All a bit of a surprise when you've just been shaken awake by an earthquake and aren't really expecting any of this commotion. The security guard that appeared not long afterwards (he was asleep by the pool next ...

Costa Rica - Manuel Antonio

... hours spent in the gym in London had made me invincible to even the strongest Pacific Ocean currents. Yeah, well, that wasn´t the case. As I confidently made my way out to sea I managed to dive under even the biggest waves...until I got hit off-guard by an absolutely MASSIVE wave (Ian´s version of the story is slightly different...but either way it was a big wave!). Next thing I knew I was doing underwater somersaults, being dragged along the sandy bottom and was washed up on the ...

Sick

... and diarrhea, followed by intense weakness. It's the sickest I ever recall being, and it wasn't a helluva lot of fun. Inez, however, took excellent care of me. I will update more on here later, but as I've lost a few days, I'm jumping on a bus to move along to my next destination. Annie will always know where I am and how I am as I'll be checking in with her daily, even if I don't make time to blog! ;-)

The first day of school

... Orosi's public elementary school attend for half day. Half the week, the K-3rd graders attend in the mornings, and the other half of the week they attend in the afternoons. The 4th-6th graders attend school at the opposite times of day, in essence making the school used all day long. For example, yesterday Jahaira started school at 12:30 and finished some time after 5:00. Today she went at 7:00 a.m. and finished a little after 12:00. (I don't yet know how middle and high ...

Wrapping Up, For Safety's Sake

... avoid being flung from the top like a week-old scab. Not that we had any need to worry, since they had already anticipated just such a complication, supplying us with little green ball caps reinforced with what I'm sure was space-age plastic, although it did scratch pretty easy. I nicknamed mine, "Still dead, but not as messy". We also did a little hiking in the area before making our way back to San Jose. Once there we spent our last day (besides Sunday, also known as ...
