    ... the next day walking around checking out Gävle and trying to appreciate that it's Summer. How do you know it's Summer in Gävle? When it feels like Winter in Australia! It was cold! And rainy! But it was really interesting to see the industrial town of Gävle with its pretty central square and shopping streets and gorgeous old quarter made up of streets of wooden houses in pretty colours with flowers popping out of the cobblestoned pavement.

    Driving through torrential rain we decided to find somewhere to free camp and selected quiet village ski car park, 400m down a narrow gravel track. Perfect we thought until the first of the committee party goers arrived to celebrate the building of their Piste basher's hut!! Thankfully we couldn't hear them for the rain hitting the roof. We even managed to watch the FA Cup final on the German satellite.

    ... would be preferable, but there seems not to be such luck. The shortest trip through Moldavia seems to be the 2 km stretch between the Ukraine and Romanian crossings. But I can only imagine how long four different border stations will take, if they're even open. Well, future Garm will have to deal with it I guess, presumably at a hotel in Kiev.
