... practical inclusions, like the curly wrought-iron railings around the back doors. The prisoner carriage was a fairly creepy affair with individual cells no bigger than an aeroplane loo. And speaking of loos, apparently prisoners going to the loo in the carriage was the most risky time in the journey because they could easily overpower the guard in the narrow corridor and try to jump out.

So today is a lazy day after our adventures yesterday. Breakfast was yummy - the usual bread, ham cheese fruit yoghurt etc but plenty of it. Then we went to have a look around gavle town. Interestingly north sweden first town with some interesting architecture dating back to 1600s. The church was particularly ornate. Still boiling hot around 28 degrees so still roasting while riding around. Forgot to mention everyone in gavle seems to love American muscle cars ...

Today was always going to be a long one with about 300 miles and a 3 and a half hour ferry crossing so we rose early 5 am actually and were ready to leave for 6 ish to head over to fredrickhavn to catch the ferry to Gutenberg (pronounced gothenberg) in sweden. Well, we slept OK on this old piece of road and no disturbances except for the light - it hardly went dark at all this far North. So light in fact we are up at 0430 and after a coffee en route by 0515 so now we feel we have been driving for ages, and of course we have. It's 9pm and I am tucked in bed in my tiny little red cottage 50 metres from the main house and 20metres from the Baltic Sea!!!! I'm currently resting my tired-from-weeding back in a bed, in a cottage, on an Island, in the archipelago, in the Baltic Sea in Sweden!
