A Grey Day

After Julie shopped and I blogged, we put some fuel into the boat and were off soon after 11:00, destination an anchorage offa small island off an island called, intriguingly, Ö Eknö, some 23 miles southwards. Actually, we later found that it was really called Östra Eknö There was a reasonable wind blowing, F3-4 from the SE and later the South so we were able to sail. Initially, as we were leaving ...
Some boats sail better than ours...
... the centre of effort ( the point at which the wind is at its’ most powerful) moves backwards with the result that you can point the boat a little higher than if you go slowly. This gave us quite good over-ground speeds, logging between 5 and 7 miles in an hour. The only annoying thing about using the engine, apart from the noise and cost of fuel, is the fact that you pass other boats that are managing to sail on the same track without the engine. CW is ...

Our First meal out since Germany
... meal out since leaving Fehmarn! The cycle route we decided upon, basically took us out back down the channel we’d come in on by boat. Bearing in mind our philosophy of breaking ourselves in gently, we reckoned on a total ride of a couple of hours. There were no cycle paths as such but it really didn’t matter, as there were so few cars about. It was idyllic, the fields and pastures we passed were lush and green and the banks of the road had pretty flowers dotted about, ...
