... 8211; must have been having too many long lunches and into the communion wine - but the Catholics missed out and there was no Cathedral on the highest point in the city ! Sacrilege! I am sure the Pope was suitably outraged and sacked the Bishop of the time.

The last act of the day was a gallop around the nearby streets to the port. In one particular street, there was an oyster market where a number of gents were shucking oysters ...

... s wife had passed suddenly about 2 years before, and her husband about 10 months before. Her friend called out of the blue and said he was going, and thought it would be good for her, too. She had never heard of the Camino, and really didn't know him more than a few Facebook interactions after each spouse passed away. He said that miracles happen - she decided to go, too. Great nights sleep, even though in a room with 20 people ;). And I felt better than ever this morning even after such a long and difficult day. No soreness, and NO blisters!!!! What a great decision to stay in this town for the day. Ponte de Lima is beautiful. Rainy/overcast this morning, but it cleared up this afternoon - perfect. This morning the town was busy setting up for Feires Novas (starts Thursday) - an annual party that goes on for 24 hours 3 days straight!? They say ...

Ponte de Lima or bust!

The sun finally came out today - with a vengeance, and very little shade on Camino in this stretch. But was bound and determined to make it all the way to Ponte de Lima. Left Tamal at 8am and arrived in Ponte de Lima at 6pm. The rough terrain and need for breaks in the shade sure slowed me down. Fitbit shows over 20 miles traveled today. But I made it!! (Sooo happy to see the 1 km sign!). Oh, and a wonderful Portuguese gentleman who stopped from ...
