It rained all night and we woke to a bright sunny day……….for
about an hour, during which time we managed to have our breakfast in the sun.
The clouds came back but at least without rain and so we jumped on our bikes
and set off into Solothurn town where there was a market on the go. Lots of
local agricultural produce was on display with vegetables, flowers and ...

So we assumed we were without a bed for the evening and we crouched near the closest Starbucks to get out of the rain, yes it was raining this whole time, long enough to use the wifi and find a place with 24hr reception. Bern is walkably small, contains millennium-old architecture, enormous town clocks, miles of covered walkways to shield shoppers from the elements, and countless quaint touches (such as statue-crested fountains, an over-sized cathedral tower, and an improbable bear park). Bern also has a well-functioning tram system, and so in spite of the rain it was easy to make our way from our hotel ...

... main road. The stream is covered by metal grates, however in some sections the grates are missing. I almost fell into it a couple of times and had to carefully watch my footing. My walk through the old town took me past the famous clock tower of Bern that is featured in almost every touristic pamphlet of the city, and ended in the massive Bundesplatz – people’s square. This massive town square was dominated by an outdoor market. Divided by the main road of ...
