We met our guide at 8am and for the next three hours she took us through narrow alleyways, into very old buildings and up and down cobbled streets. We visited the Palace of the Grand Master built on the highest point of the city and the Street of the Knights where the medieval knights lived after they were expelled from Jerusalem and before they went to Malta.

    The Departure

In the afternoon, we were driven back to the city of Rhodes for a tour of the Old Town area.

This included a walk over the moat and through the gates of the several layers of city walls built in the early 14th century.

They were so well fortified that they were able to withstand ...

... of the town. In Rhodes, the hospitallers have been replaced by the restauranteurs; there must be 500 tavernas in the old town. And, every restaurant owner is out on the streets/alleys trying to entice you in. In between the restaurants are just as many souvenir shops! We stopped for coffee (of course) at a place that was off the main drags; at €7.40 for two coffees it was probably a bit of a rip off, but it was ...
