Historical Traveler Reviews Diana Pompei

Wonderful!!! Stay at this Hotel!

from katethedoglover

Everything was great! Hotel Diana was the 3rd stop on a three week tour that included Rome, Naples, Amalfi, Santorini ( Greece) and Athens. We did come in on the Circumvesuviana train and got dropped off at the train station on the opposite side of town from the Diana, but once we found it it was an oasis! It was down a little alleyway which made us a bit concerned for a second, but when we went in the girls at the desk were SO friendly and helpful. Our room wasn't quite ready so they stored our luggage in the lobby and told us not to worry and they'd watch it ( I wasn't worried) and set us up with audio tours and gave us a map and an itinerary in case we wanted to use Pompeii as a base for other excursions and told us where to eat and they just could not have been nicer. The room was beautiful, clean and modern and the best we stayed in. I think it was 90E for a double. It was close to the square and close to the ruins and I cannot say enough good things about this place. Seriously, stay here.

Very friendly family-run hotel

We spent 4 nights in this very pleasant hotel because we thought P,ompeii was a good base for sightseeing in both directions. The small, very provincial town has no less than 3 rail stations which does make transport easy but be careful about which branch of the Circumvesuviana line you are on.

The owner of the hotel was kind enough to drive us to the furthest station without charge early one morning. We have no real complaints except that after 4 days breakfast was inevitably beginning to get rather samey (and I do wish they put some fresh fruit out: other hotels failed to do this as well). If anyone wants a reasonable restaurant in town, try the Zi Katerina in the other main street at right angles.

Superb

from numpty

Just returned from a three night stay. Perfect. All of the staff are so friendly and smiling when they talk to you and are courtious and helpful, unlike the majority of other Italian hotels and Italians generally.

I asked for directions several times and was given exact driving instructions and as much time as I wanted to go over them.

Don't be put off by the entance to the street, a lot of money has been spent on the re-furb and it is fresh and clean.

I would stay again and would not look anywhere else.

Enjoy

Good location and competitively priced, clean and modern, quiet at night, with helpful, bilingual staff. Take their recommendation and have a meal at the nearby Restaurant La Situla.

Hello!!! Well I've always wanted to go to Pompeii and now I've finally gotten to go!! Even since I was little I loved reading about Mt. Vesuvius and the ruins of Pompeii so this trip was especially great for me :) We arrived in Naples on Saturday morning and took the subway to Pompeii. (It's a very cute town, lots of little children and families). …

We headed out of the countryside with trepidation that a transportation strike - both bus and train - would keep us from getting to our destination. Antonello took us early in the morning down to the bus station to wait with us in case they didn't show up. They did show up! "THERE'S YOUR BUS!!" he yelled with enthusiasm.

In Napoli, we …

Vesuvio

It was a day of extremes.

We woke up to light rain, much to the delight of our sunbeaten skins. We grabbed an umbrella and headed for the bus that would take us to Vesuvius, the infamous angry volcano that covered and preserved Pompei for us to enjoy centuries later.

We took a forty minute bus ride down a highway and up a …
