      ... great meal and the same great Chianiti. We decided we should have some Gelato while we were in Venice, but we did it with flair. We thought we were ordering something we had seen flaming at another flaming at another table that had crepes. We ordered Crepe All Arancia which wound up being a flambéed dessert minus the crepes Hmmm. Still very, very good and it had the gelato we were really after.       ... and into Old Venice dropping us at the Piazzale Roma. I don't think I ever quite appreciated Venice's unique nautical position! The "Venice" that we all know and love is not part of the mainland nor is it built on reclaimed land. It is actually built onto 118 small islands that are all linked together by bridges. So it was built onto land, not over water.

      ... the main street just going down some side streets. It's so easy to get lost. There are over 4000 shops and stalls and over 300 streets and alleys. When I visited it in 1968 it was a real market where you could buy authentic goods. However it is still a sight to see even if you don't buy anything.
