Lovin Liat

... and we had to take the 6:30 PM flight which arrived in St. Vincent too late for the last ferry. Liat was generous enough to supply accomodations in St. Vincent. We were very sad to lose a day in Bequia, but the evening turned out to be a great experience...

We stayed at Bay Hill Towers. We were a little apprehensive after the day of disappointment with Liat and the ride to Bay Hill was dark (and a bit scary for us, sorry Bailey). It turned ...

On our way to paradise

The race to vacation has finally ended. Yay! On our way to Bequia (pronounced Beckway. Does David Beckham really own the island and do we really have to do it his way?). First an overnight in St. Lucia, and then a quick hop to St. Vincent tomorrow AM, and finally a ferry to paradise. We are running on fumes right now, but thoughts of the islands ...

Kat in St Lucia – Arrival Day

... of the island, we bypassed the queues for immigration and security, and were fast tracked out of the airport. I did feel a little sorry for everyone else waiting in line, but also a little bit pleased with myself at the same time.
Jumping in the mini van, reggae music on high, the first stop was at a bar for a Piton beer or Rum and Coke at a view point. It was raining but it didn’t put a dampener ...

Im Off to St Lucia! The Adventures of Kat

Travelling abroad is a fantastic perk of working in the travel industry and when I was given the opportunity to join an educational trip to St Lucia in the Caribbean, organised by the St Lucia Tourist board, I couldn't contain my excitement. The Caribbean is one of those places everyone would like to visit, and I thought my chance of going was a long way off. So of course I grabbed the opportunity with ...

...Simply Beautiful...

... just outside Soufiere. We met our park guide and she praised this town as the "only-drive-in volcano in the world". The moment we entered the middle of the volcano you will noticed rightaway the pungent odour of hydrogen sulfide in the air...similar to the odour of rotten eggs. You have to cover your nose because the smell is really obnoxious! Our tour van is just parked several yards away ...

Best of St. Lucia land & sea

... from time to time in order not to inhale it. The smell kind of got to you after a while. However, it was a wonderful feeling to be able to sense, see and smell one of nature's wonders. Luckily for us, the volcano did not erupt while we were there. :)

We then continued our way to the rustic working plantation called Morne Coubaril Estate. The estate has cocoa, coconut, citrus and other tropical trees. Here, we walked along ...

Christmas In The Caribbean

... markets and have lunch local style. Most offering are the same as on other islands just with the name changed. I managed to buy a few Christmassy things in Europe (pudding, custard, chocolates) not knowing what would be available in the shops here on the islands. Lucky as there wasn't much to choose from and the prices were pretty frightening but thanks to those Kiwis and their sheep we were able to secure a leg of lamb ($70 AUD) for our Christmas dinner. The weather here ...

Hey, I never get seasick... Yeah right!

... keep my breakfast and lunch down for as long as possible. I didn't succeed too well with that I have to admit and had to make a few offerings to King Neptune! I'm sure I made some starving fish very happy! I received a fair amount of teasing from the Captain and the others that night of course... After a few hours of rough sailing we arrived at Beautiful Bequia, which is a small island in the Caribbean ...
