      ... my way to Abilene around 7 am. I stopped at a local coffee shop and had a nice breakfast about a mile from the Library. I arrived as the doors opened at the library. They accepted my Hoover membership for admission to Eisenhower as was promised. I was told that the first tour through the Eisenhower home was at 9:15.       Also, did you know that there really is a 'Dorothy's House,' complete with a yellow brick road and all of the characters??? There is! It's in Liberal, Kansas, in the south western corner, just above Oklahoma. (Junctions 83 and 54 if you are interested) We didn't take that route, but you can!

Also part of my route 'planning' was the knowledge that extreme weather was forecast for an exaggerated hourglass shape with its bottom lobe across southern Kansas and its top lobe across southern Nebraska. There was a thin line across northern Kansas that was 'safe' and that was what I was headed for. I drove on many a wet highway, and at one point about

      We're heading out right after lunch to get a head start, the weather is perfect and we are packed and loaded. We took hwy 179 to 87 through Boonville where we jumped onto hwy 5 then at Fayette got on hwy 3 I took a picture of the New Franklin sign showing it was Sara Evans' hometown.
