Hey!
We made it to Bangkok in one piece, except for a delay in Amsterdam because the china airways plane had a flat tyre!
Bangkok is brilliant! but we dont think it smells as bad as everyone says? The hotel we're in is really nice & very close to khosan road (Main tourist area) we've been to a couple of wats alerady including wat pho which has a massive gold recling buddha & wat Arun whcih has millions of really scaryily steep steps up to it & as we were climbing a t...
Hey everybody
We are leaving Bangkok today for Hong Kong to stay with Sarah's uncle Shane.
Our last few days in Bangkok were brilliant. On Wednesday we took it easy and walked around the local area, we saw a couple of small Wats (thats a Buddhist temple Jen!) and we walked up the Golden Mount to the temple at the top.
Yesterday was a deadly day. We did a day tour of the bridge over the river kwai, sai yoi nok waterfall and the tiger temple. The bridge was better than we ...
I like BKK airport, its good, dead modern and trendy. Staff really helpful. We had arranged for a taxi to pick us up from the airport but it didnt turn up so this is what you
do if you need a taxi...x
Having got your bags, walk through customs and make a left, you will see signs for taxis. When you get to the taxi rank you will see that its just a desk, tell the man behind
the desk where you want to go, he will give you a price, he will give you a ticket and allocate a driver. SIMP...
Yey our first proper full day - up and ready for breakfast by 10am. I had fruit (apple, watermelon and pineapple) and then a pancake with honey... Nice - American style pancakes! And a cup of coffee.
DK had scrambled eggs on toast and then chocolate banana pancake and coffee - all for the bargian price of 200bht.
Food was very good actually although Im not too sure about the coffee - i might try the tea.

Well I've been here about 2 weeks now and we've been up to quite a lot! Firstly we arrived in Bangkok and stayed for 3 nights. Its boiling hot here and the muggy air in the city was quite crazy as well as the city was just manic! Clare and Michelle joined me and Lucy at our hotel after a nightmare of a journey and on our first day wewent straight out to do some sight seeing. Immediately we got conned literally meters from our hotel by some tuk tk drivers that told us the grand palace was clos...
Ko Phangan, Thailand jumpingjode So we finally got away!
As always, Bangkok was a big shock to the system - hot, humid, crowded and frenetic. We'd taken the easy route of booking a hotel next to the backpacking mecca of Kao San road. Its equivalent in London would be something like Leicester Square - central location, everything you need close by, lots of other tourists, but you wouldn't really hang out there as a Londoner.
The idea was to see some of the sights in Bangkok in the first couple of days, but as...
Yay! We finally arrived, after being dropped off at Auckland airport at 1am (Thanks Jenny & Chris!) and waiting in the closed departure lounge for several hours we were able to head off around 3am. Luckily the plane was only 1/2 full so we got a row of 3 seats each to lie down on and sleep some of the way. Then a few hours stopover in Brunei, and a 2 hr flight to Bangkok, on another 1/2 full flight. So all in all a pretty pleasant trip over here.
Just adjusting to the time difference n...
Still adjusting to the time difference we woke up about 5:30am (for me that’s a record I think!) Had breakfast and were out the door by 7:30am, however the Wat’s only open around 8am and Wat Pho, where we were heading today, famous for the huge reclining Buddha, wasn’t open until 8:30am, so when we arrived just before 8am we were lucky to be able to walk around the grounds free from any other tourists. Once inside the reclining Buddha was huge! The photo gives some idea but ...
Bangkok, Thailand shinetravelsThis morning as soon as we walked out of the hotel door we were approached by a Tuk Tuk driver asking if we would like a “very special deal, today only!” He would take us around to various Wat’s (temples) all over town for the very low price of 20bt (about NZ$1) which seemed a bit to good to be true. It seemed even if we only used his services for 1hr or up to 5hrs the price would be the same. Hmmmm... After some convincing from him that the Government had a “petrol-fr...
Bangkok, Thailand shinetravels
