Z Amsterdamu się nie odezwaliśmy, bo wsiąkliśmy z Anią na lotniskowym placu zabaw - tzn. Ania się bawiła, a my na zmianę drzemaliśmy.

Lot do Amsterdamu i kolejny do Warszamy przebiegły bez problemów. Jeszcze raz utwierdziliśmy się w przekonaniu, że nasza najmłodsza podróżniczka jest świetnym kompanem przy takich wyprawach.

From April 1943 to March 1944, "only" 160,000 Jews were killed at Birkenau, but from March 1944 to November 1944, when all the other death camps had been abandoned, Birkenau surpassed all previous records for mass killing. Infact, only about 7,000 surviving prisoners were liberated at the end of the war. There were actually three concentration camps operating in the Polish town, Oswiecim. The most famous was Auschwitz I, but the most notorious would have been Auschwitz II (Birkenau). By June 1943 Auschwitz-Birkenau had four crematoria in operation, and by the time the Soviets liberated the ...

"let this be a monument to despair and a reminder to humanity"

These are the words from the memorial at Auschwitz-Birkenau II. Today I went to see the concentration camps Auschwitz and Auschwitz-Birkenau II. I will not fill this entry with my thoughts and feelings on the museum because I think that it would be incredibly crass to describe my little woes today given the scale of the suffering that went on here over such a prolonged ...
