Ok guys, I've been a bit of a slacker in getting this written, have been back almost two weeks now!
So............ Dubai and Turkey!
Dubai was good, but I think I have to say, now that I have seen it, I wouldn't go back. Just really one big, glitzy, (dusty) man-made creation... Who can build the next highest tower? sort of thing... However, we did some pretty cool things whilst we were there. Luke met me at the airport, which was all very sweet, and we stayed there for 3 nights ...
Our flight from Israel was a red eye that actually had to connect in Jordan because there are no direct flights (the U.A.E. doesn't recognize the Israel). Luckily for us there was only a 20 people on the whole plane so we had plenty of room to stretch out an sleep. Upon arriving in Dubai it was already 90 degrees and humid at 6:00 am! We were instantly amazed by the development going on in the city. 55% of the world's supply of tower cranes are putting up skyscapers EVERYWHERE! There are new ...

... last time I was here. I kept two hundred dollar bills in my pocket in case I got caught. Great dessert bar. You can land you chopper on the roof and walk to your table, You can also look down and see the Palm Island development, big beyond comprehension. Scores of hotels, hundreds of big houses, all built on a manmade island in the Gulf.

Tomorrow...Return to Africa!
Dubai, Dubayy, United Arab Emirates austinairwavesSo, it is actually Monday evening at this point and we're finally getting around to writing a little something. The internet is a bit slow here and there is not as much access to internet at cafes, etc as we thought. So the pictures may or may not be uploaded until we get back. So back to Thursday, our first day here. Dubai is a city under construction. They say that something like 50% of the cranes in the world are in Dubai and that has to ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates surleplat... but it is safe to say that i was mightily ****** off. On leaving that room i was taken to a table where several customs officals went through my main bag with a fine toothcomb. I realised that i had some pirate DVD's in my bag that were wrapped up in a black big bag. When they found this bag it did look very dodgy and they got very excited and were dissapointed to see it was only DVD's. In the ned they let me go but it ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates freetime... surprise when he opens his mailbox and finds I'm racking up charges in his name. I can just picture the poor ******* now... "I'm being billed for a hotel room in Abu Dhabi?!" Anyhow, on to real things. Real AWESOME things, actually. One of my favourite places as a child was the waterslide park at Sylvan Lake. I love waterslides. So it was almost a foregone conclusion that I'd spend a day at Wild Wadi, a water park extraordinaire. Themed, unsurprisingly, with ...

Dubai, United Arab Emirates pilleDubai's got one of the more hyperactive airports in the world. It’s not that it’s any larger than any of the others, but it’s busy… any hour of the day. It’s even got an Irish pub- how’s that for Muslim Lite, er… I mean Muslim Stout. Mostly it’s got electronics and other similar 'duty-free’ items. I won’t go ...
Dubai, Dubayy, United Arab Emirates hardiek... with your opinion: "Do you find that people tend to tease wild animals in zoos? Is it because it gives them a sense of power? Or do they just lack sensitivity towards animals? Tell us at letter2editor@gulfnews.com." Yes, quality journalism. I'm going to flip a coin and say....yes, definitely, sense of power. Grown men who are dealing with issues of masculinity and inferiority often times go to the zoo to tease animals in order to regain their sense of power.
