Paradise hotel
Long journey in the car to jodphur, none of us could wait to fight over a shower! We arrived at our hotel, through iron gates, gorgeous pathway with fountain and trees, the reception and lounge area was open spaced and welcoming. Had our bags taken to our rooms, preying that the three rooms that were together were upstairs! ...walked through the …
The Blue City
Took the 5:15pm train to Jodhpur on Jan 20. It was a 5 hour trip arriving in Jodhpur at 10:40pm. Travel was on time and we met a young couple from Britain – Matt and Clare – who have been traveling for over a year – South America, Africa, India and then on to China and Japan. They got us very interested in going to Uganda and …

Jodhpur
Early morning rise for the bus ride to Jodhpur on the rat hore. The horn on the bus is hillarious and annoying at the same time. Sleeper bunks are above us, packed with locals. A max 2 person bunk, filled with twice as many. I wouldn't be surprised if there was people on top of the roof. Some also standing in the aisle. Even the single seaters …
Jodhpur
Happy Halloween! They don't celebrate this holiday in India, so I will alone. I've decided to ditch the group and explore the city on my own. I've felt a little rushed these pass couple of days, so it's me time to really emerse myself in and get a real feel for Indian culture. There are public urinals out in the open for everyone to see. I guess it …

The staff couldn't possibly be more helpful. The rooms are clean, the food in the restaurant is lovely. The pool is kept immaculately clean and the smell of bougainvilla is beautiful at dusk. It is stunning, I would go back in an instant.

Historical Traveler Reviews Devi Bhawan Jodhpur
Quality Devi
Seriously good value place on edge of town, great spacious rooms, good pool, excellent staff, really helpful. Breakfasts nice, rickshaw drivers outside the hotel a decent bunch. When in town have dinner on the battlements of the fort, serously good experience.
What an oasis
Stayed at this hotel for three nights. The owners could not do enough to make my stay comfortable. The food was great but the gardens are stunning also a great pool.If you are looking for an oasis in a city that can be noisy and full on this is the place. The only thing I regret...LEAVING
Great Hotel!
We stayed four nights in this beautiful hotel and we definitely would stay here again! Good rooms, very nice garden, a fine restaurant, a splendid swimmingpool and all this for a very reasonable price! It's a bit out of the way, but that's why it's so peaceful. There's allways a tuk-tuk waiting for you (and if there isn't, one of the boys will find you one!)
The people were very kind and the (room-)service was excellent.
Highly recommended
The Devi Bhawan made everywhere else we stayed in Rajastan feel corporate and characterless.
The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and gentle, it really is a retreat from the hustle and bustle of Jodhpur.
Comforting hideaway
After two busy and tiring days in Jodphur we loved to come back to Devi Bhavan and relax.
You will definitely like it.
Beautiful hotel
We stayed for one night at the Devi Bhawan and would thoroughly receommend it to other travellers.
The room was unremarkable, simply furnished but more importantly spotlessly clean and the bed was comfortable. The gardens are stunning and I wish we had had more time to relax there and use the pool.
The staff and service were the most professional we encountered in India and the home cooked food was worth the visit alone.
I would definitely stay again and for longer.
At home away from home !
If you are looking for a delightful heritage place to stay while in Jodhpur, don't hesitate : this is the place to go for !
Located in the Ratanada suburb, quite close to Umaid Bhawan Palace and a short rickshaw's drive to most of the " must see "places around, Devi Bhawan is nestled, behind walls, in the middle of a oasis of trees, flowers and bushes.
It is probably one of the loveliest gardens in the city of Jodhpur.
The rooms are charming and quite large. Mine, a garden room, came with a bow window where you can sit and read if you prefer to remain indoor in the evening.
But if you prefer, you can stretch yourself among the cushions on the big swing in the gazebo and listen to the refreshing sound of the fountain !
There is a nice small restaurant and a terrass overlooking the garden where it was so good to have breakfast while listening to the birds'song in the trees. The manager and the staff are very nice and helpful people.
They would do their best to help you to organise your excursions, rent a car etc...
Their advises are really very precious !
Most of all, Devi Bhawan is a safe place where a single woman traveller will feel taken care of ( when needed ),protected and safe ! And this, in my opinion, is really invaluable !
Devi Bhawan owners , a very charming and friendly couple, welcome their guests personnally and do come out of their way to make your stay with them the most enjoyable possible. Their wonderful hospitality and the fact that Devi Bhawan is a family property make you feel really at home in Jodhpur ! Thank you !
Fantastic!
Pros:
- Amazing surrounding decorated with taste and exquisite gardens
- A clean swimming pool
- Lovely friendly people
- Located slightly outside the city center, but 5 minutes by rickshaw, which makes the place a little oasis in a very busy city
Cons:
- Not many
- Food is not a highlight but it is still decent and fairly priced. Service a little slow as well
Relaxing retreat
We enjoyed our stay, the room was excellent value and included a sitting room.Lovely gardens made it an oasis; complete with peacock and swing seat.We enjoyed the breakfasts at the rotunda looking out over the garden. Staff organised our train tickets to jaipur and were helpful.
An oasis in Jodhpur
It's almost worth a trip to Jodhpur just to stay at Devi Bhawan. I spent 5 or 6 weeks there one summer (2004) while I was working for a micro-NGO, and I still treasure memories of my time at there. It is a series of small cottages set around a beautiful old garden, with tall neem trees and all sorts of other greenery and flowers. Lots of birds. Verandahs. The food is great. The service is excellent. Run by a charming young couple, all the staff at Devi Bhawan are friendly, competent, attentive and apparently very happy to be working there. The rooms are clean, comfortable and furnished in a homey way. The summer of 2005 I was there again, not for as long. They were as welcoming and lovely as ever, and the food if anything had gotten even better. It is out from the center of the city, and calmer and cleaner because of that. But the old city is just a short rickshaw ride away, or taxi. There are always rides available from the main street. Shops are in walking distance if you need them, and fresh fruit markets. The manager and owners speak perfect English and are extremely helpful. This place is solid gold.
