... about 1 hour on the boat. There is residential along the shoreline and half way up the mountain most of the way around the lake, the further we get away from Como although it begins to thin out and clear townships can be seen.
Menaggio is, like all the other towns, a holiday destination and at this time of year most of the places are closed. We find somewhere to have lunch and then spend the afternoon wandering through the alleyways ...

Leaving Milano, we started the day with Bergamo which is an ancient town about 40 km east of Milan we've been hearing a lot about. I have to admit that it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Maybe it's just me setting my expectation too high.

... We spent some time wandering around Piazza del Duomo and ended up in a pizza place. We were in Italy after all! Ofcouse we didn't forget to stroll through the infamous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and visited the bull for good luck. As you make a wish you have to place your heel and turn three times clockwise. Plus the couples going down to church with bottles of wine in their hands were worth admiring.     On our first ...

      Milan to Vicenza

... speed limit (130k) we managed to arrive successfully in Vicenza.

The place we are staying is pretty lovely. It is an eighteenth century Venetian Villa set on 40 acres of farmland with massive gardens, pool etc. They have converted some of the farm buildings into apartments complete with kitchens etc. The place is enclosed with high stone walls topped with statues & wrought iron gates. ...
