The views from the top of the fortress were outstanding, and provided a great perspective on how the rivers coalesce around the city of Passau. We walked down on a gently sloping trail through the dense forest and then took advantage of one more hour to spend some time in this pretty city.

... placed an Italian restaurant on our path. Realizing we didn't speak German, the waitress called on the owner, Luigi, who kindly explained to us the menu in Italian. Feigning to understand his words with some "Si, si", we ordered a caprese salad, pizza and pasta, all the carbs necessary to cover the 56km remaining to our goal. ... before crossing into Austria where everybody bought up on alcohol and nibbles. As an example 1 litre of Jamiesons Whisky was around au$22.

Back at the boat and we had some time to walk the streets of Linz. This looks like a beautiful city and further exploring could be done here. The town square was large with people enjoying the cafe's and with people finishing work for the day the trams passing through here were full.

... the Danube. The day was slightly cloudy but warm, perfect for bike riding. We had a great ride along the river over a few bridges and travelled around 19kms over two hours. Good fun and glad to do a bit more exercise after all the food we have been tempted with, self control is very hard when it's all so delicious.
