A lazy morning by pool before golf

... decibels. Truly hideous! The golf course is deserted for the epic match-up. We hire clubs, buy a sufficient quantity of ammo and set off into the incongruous mix of green space and new (mostly empty) avenues of houses and apartments. We both play remarkably well but, suffice it to say, that Hilli wins... she succeeds in getting threes on three of the par 3 holes, including the seventeenth where she cements her win. The seventeenth ...

Balchik, Russian mafia and call girls

... the one 'I'm-Sebastian' told us about. We follow a sign suggesting that the palace must be built into the cliffs on the far side of the touristy bit. The road, however, leads us straight back to the seashore where there are some half-finished luxury flats (all for sale) beside an abandoned former building site from, we think, the communist past. 500 yards further up the beach we can see a completed hotel complex and, in the gap, the seaside palace nestles back from ...

It has a sort of Norfolk coast feel to it but with straight roads! Population is sparse and yet we pass a road sign directing us to the 'Lighthouse Golf Resort', our booked-in destination. And, sure enough, ten miles further on, there's a road to the left ...

... luck. I had spaghetti bolognese which might as well have been a plate of oil and Alex had pork gristle in mushroom sauce, dubious. We also discovered that Bulgarian waiting staff (certainly in this area anyway) have no concept of how to serve food. We didn't have to wait long but they insist on bringing each dish when its ready regardless of the order you'd like to have it in, or whether you'd like the rice you ordered as a side ...

Windy weather and really interesting golf partners

We woke up this morning to a gale force wind, dark low clouds and spitting rain. We almost turned over and went back to sleep. But here we were so we packed the wet weather kit and headed for the BlackSeaRama Golf course. It was incredibly windy, probably the strongest winds I have ever played in but it did make it interesting.... and in fact it didn't rain at all and did warm up but the wind made it a cool day; good day ...
