... dishes after steak. And Amy is right - their pasta and pizza suck almost across the board. No flavor at all! Donīt come to Argentina for the cuisine, thatīs for sure. Unless you plan on eating steak every day, then you are safe!
The main reason we came to Calafate was to see the Perito Moreno glacier. It is probably the most famous glacier in South America, if not the world. Itīs not the biggest, but it is the most easily accessible. And let me ...
... for a view, the drive went quick. We had to pay our entrance fee and then we continued on the coach to a spot where we stopped to take pictures of the glacier from a distance. We then had an option to take a boat ride to view the glacier up close, this was an additional cost but defiantly worth doing. The boat sailed the 5 kilometer front of the glacier which was 60 meters above the water and was even more spectacular to view up close. We watched as great masses ...
El Calafate, Patagonia, Argentina dlz... to forego this because of the expense, but it sounded awesome), South America, etc. The four of us split a cab from the airport in BA and we met at Plaza San Martin that night to check out the United Buddy Bears again and grab dinner together. We returned to BA to two large pieces of news. The first was the state funeral of Raul Alfonsin, the father of modern Argentina. Argentina suffered from a series of repressive ...
El Calafate, Argentina chiapoe... the lake. We spent hours watching this process repeating itself, mesmorised and trying to catch some of the falling junks on camera. This proved to be very difficult and a lot of luck is required as the glacier is so huge, 4 km across and curved. The noise is the first warning you get by which time the ice has already hit the water. Every few years on average, the glacier advances all the way across ...
Geweldig. Goed, El Chanten dus, home of the great Fitz Roy peaks.
El Calafate, Patagonia, Argentina mariaandeva... a gaucho rode right past our window, followed by the usual pack of dogs - little things remind you that you are not in the UK! We are pottering around El Calafate today, then we are booked on a bus leaving for Puerto Natales (Chilean immigration here we come, again) at 8.30am tomorrow morning, a five-hour trip, through what should be some impressive landscape.
El Calafate, Argentina dawnandphill... fantastic news , the best candidate for the job thankfully won and itīs a truly momentous change for America and indeed the rest of the keenly watching world ! Back to the travel ... the Moreno glacier was magnificent and itīs a truly remarkable natural wonder. Itīs 5km wide , 30km long and up to 60 metres high and it is an "advancing" glacier that moves apparently over a foot each day renewing itself to compensate for the great chunks of the glacier ...
