Belgium was a bust

Belgium was a bust

Hello!

So for two weekends in a row, my plans have not worked out exactly as I had hoped. That has only made me more determined to come back again and see Europe! It is unfortunate that I won't go over the border in my 2 months here. I will only set foot in another country on my way home when I stop over in Vienna and Singapore on ...

One more week to go...

... in my head. I didn't buy the program because it cost nearly as much as my ticket and I couldn't justify it. (The last week of a holiday u want to live like a rich man, but must live like a poor man). There was a beautiful song which I am sure was about a woman on her wedding day. I really wanted a copy! We went to the stall where they were selling the CDs but because it was all brand new music, they hadn't recorded it yet. Gretel (from Cuba/Sth Africa) bought a CD ...

It has officially turned into Winter

... next Thursday and hopefully the Phantom of the Opera on Friday, plus on Valentines day I am going to see Don Giovanni. It should be good. And it's so incredibly cheap here. I have never known an opera to be only $15 for students in Australia. (Mind you, I have never been to the Opera in Australia...)

So I will leave u to think of me in a winter wonderland (I am not sick, so this is an accurate description).

Speak with u soon,

Sunday at the Opera

... 10 to 5. After that I had some salad, read a bit of my german book, worked on Imperfect verbs and then went to bed.

When I woke up it was today. The annoying thing about today is that because of the storm Thurs, we were sent home early, which means that all of my Literature classes go for 2 hours now, instead of 1.5. And they were the most boring ones!!!

That is all that I have to say about the past and present. Now to the ...

What happened Saturday?

... for others. The music was so different to Rent that it was hard to appreciate it. But at least I knew what was happening.

After the Opera we managed to get back to the hotel with 2 trains, one bus and one tram (and 20 mins of walking). I really hope that the train sytem comes back soon!

Yet again I must depart. In my next installment I will tell u about my trip to the Opera on Sunday night to see Der Zauberflöte.

Tshuss!

Post Hurrikan und alles ist Gut

... because of the trains. We went to Mayersche a giant bookstore in the Centre of Essen for a bit of cheering up. I found some wonderful books that I can use for my teaching in Australia, as well as a really cheap trashy teen fiction written in German that I am reading at the moment and understanding most of it.

When I got back to the hotel we made dinner and then got ready to go out to the Delta Diskothek. It's a giant disco that has ...

Hurikan Kyrill

Hi guys,
Don"t know if u have heard or not, but Germany is in the middle of a hurricane. 150km winds and severe warnings from the government to stay indoors. It was supposed to hit Essen really hard and we were all sent home from uni early and told to stay indoors. I really wanted to go online today to talk to u all like I said I would. Sorry guys!! I"ve just borrowed Tara"s laptop now. Mum, if u read this, send me a text message when u wake up so I can ...

... utensils, as well as chats with us for hours and helps us with our homework. He is a 'Gothic' but one of the friendliest, smiley people I have ever met. A little bit odd...
Was noch... I am having another quiet night in tonight, I'll have dinner with Rafael and then do some homework. I have an exciting weekend ahead of me. Fri, Sat and Sunday nights I am going to the Opera, it is so cheap! Sunday is a paid excursion with the ...

My not so crazy weekend

... station too late. the only train that we could catch would arrive in Witten after it had already started, we were really disappointed, but now we are determined to see La Boheme next Saturday night in Duisburg and we'll investigate train times before we go so that we're not disappointed again.
And that's all that happened on the weekend. Tonight we are going to see a comedy about Hitler, made in Germany called 'Mein Fuhrer'. Should be really interesting... Until next time,

Germany vs Italy

... were gracious in victory. Dortmund was a great city for the football. The stadium is walking distance from the old town and the street was filled with patriotic Germans, live bands and outdoor bars. In the old town the squares were alive with different festivities - discos, oompah bands, dancers, people on stilts etc. The continual theme everywhere though was black, red and yellow. So for us the World Cup is over now but we've had a fantastic time - see you in South Africa!
